Concern grows at check-in when you are asked to pay a USD 100 deposit 'in case you damage the room.' There is a warning about ongoing renovations. The room was absolutely disgusting...only partially cleaned, with bags of soiled towels and garbage lurking in corners, cupboards, and on the doorstep...thick greasy dust lining the cupboards....dirty and cracked tiles in the shower...and damaged plumbing and other fixtures. Judging by the strong, acrid paint fumes, this room may have been renovated...but not to any interior design style that I am familiar with...dark khaki walls with deep green and brown tones. This added to my depressed mood. To the credit of the front desk personnel, she came and tried to clean up the worst of the mess and maintained a smile despite working in this dilapidated ruin of a hotel. This is a hotel that must surely be on the precipice of closing. The nearby strip mall still has a CVS, Harris Teeter, Breuggers Bagels, and a cinema...although the strip mall also looks like it has seen better days, with ~50% of shops vacant. A great place to experience life in decline, while enjoying a bagel.
