This place is like a "home away from home". The rooms were clean, perhaps not the most modern but totally comfortable. The breakfast (served only during week ends) was so hardy with fresh fruits, yogurt, muffins, hard boiled eggs, chia seeds and natural peanut butter. The husband-wife team friendly and easy to engage into a conversation. This lodge is truly a gem tucked away near the Whiteface mountain;

Room Tip: Any room is good

Thank you, Maarit, for your kind words. If you come again hopefully you will stay in one of our renovated rooms which are, we think, quite modern and up to date including built in USB ports. Thanks again.

We stayed here in May on our way to an event in Vermont the next day, and used the opportunity to take a quick look around Lake Placid. If you're planning on doing things mostly around the Lake Placid area, then this place is in a rather good location- it's not in the town center, but it's not too far (although we didn't have good cell service on AT&T from there). The owners were very friendly and helpful- they pointed us to some good places for a quick hike, there's a complimentary breakfast on weekends, and I really appreciated the k-cups provided over the typical hotel coffee machines.

Overall, the place was certainly an example of the classic American rural motel in it's former life. I don't know how many rooms have been redone- I know not all of them were completed in May- but the new owners have definitely put some work into the place. We were in one of the refurbished rooms, and while there were still some vestiges of the past- the toilet and shower were still original, and the back of the bathroom door had yet to be repainted- overall the work that they did made the room quite pleasant and seemed to be tasteful and appropriate to the theme of the region. Our room also had a refrigerator. The bed was comfortable enough, and the A/C worked.

One thing that the room did need was either an inner curtain, or weights in the curtain that was there, because the curtain had a tendency to blow around when the A/C was on. For those looking for privacy, this could be a surprise if the A/C turns on and the curtains suddenly go woosh... WiFi is provided but was somewhat intermittent, so between that and the weak cell service, if there's something that you need to do that's data intensive you should probably plan on working on it from a coffee shop in Lake Placid or somewhere like that.

There were a couple of other things that we didn't have a chance to make use of, but are nice touches- mainly the availability of bikes to use ("city bikes", not for off road) and a community kitchen with a larger refrigerator and a very slim stove.

It's definitely the sort of place we would stay at again if we end up in the area in the future.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a refurbished room- although I'm not sure if they're still booking the ones that haven't been redone yet.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write that detailed review. Since your stay, we have upgraded our internet and wi-fi and I can assure you that it is MUCH better. Weights on the curtains is a great idea. Thanks again!

We arrived earlier than expected so our room was not ready. There is a little patio at the front of the hotel with tables and comfy seats. We ran to the convenience store for some munchies and beer and waited for room. The owner is very hands on and you get a very homey feeling. The room was exceptionally clean but dated, which I don't care about at all. They are renovating so in the near future this place will be even greater. They had a community kitchen so if you needed something you could find it there. Laundry facilities too. There is morning coffee and basic breakfast in the check in area. Very nice. There are Keurings in the room...nice touch. Highly highly recommend the lodge.

We were very happy to find a room in that small motel where we had a quite friendly service. The room was clean, we could use a Keurig coffee maker, there were a lot of channels to watch on TV (even a French one!) and the beds were very comfortable. We felt safe and happy in that place in the middle of a generous nature!

The new owners are doing a great job. The rooms are simple, updated with nice decor. They've got bikes, a fire pit, a common kitchen, and coffee in the rooms. Gorgeous short drive from Placid and perfectly placed if you want to spend the day on Whiteface.
