So salty that it is possible to lie on the surface and not sink, even if you are a non-floater at any other time. Very salty and you need to shower off quickly or yu like like a crystal.

You must walk, ride or take a bus tour pass these lakes. Big part of Rottnest History and you can read about it more at the museum. I took my 2 girls for a ride around a few lakes to show them. We stopped and walked up to them and got them to experience the smell and feel.

We visited Rottness Island on the fast ferry service from Hillary's Jetty, north of Perth. We saw the salt lakes as part of a Rottness Discovery bus tour, which took over 1.5 hours and covered most of the main features of the island. The guide, Roy, was knowledgable about all aspects of this Grade 'A' nature reserve. We drove right to West End, at the far end of the island before returning past the salt lakes, where flocks of birds were congregating. The island is traffic free so besides cycling, the best way to view the salt lakes and all the other beautiful scenery is on a bus tour. Well worth visiting if you are in the Perth, Fremantle or Scarborough areas.
