There's a lot of behind the scenes logistics at Rotto and the whole team, whether in the Visitor Centre, doing the luggage rounds, changing gas bottles over, emptying bins, doing bus runs or being a jolly ranger do so with such friendly good grace it is a pleasure to be looked after by them. Good work peoples!!

You need more than one day to do the island justice. Getting a selfie isn’t as easy as it sounds but you can get plenty of great photos.
Watch out for all the cyclists as many of them have interesting interpretations of how you should ride and are so distracted by the vistas to pay attention to how their riding.

We visited mainly to experience beautiful beaches and see the Quokkas. They were completely unafraid of humans and so cute. We took the hop on hop off bus passed a point where sea lions and 3 humpback whales were present. We ate fish and chips in glorious weather and watched as an osprey swooped down and flew away with a large lizard in its talons. Trip was 30 minutes from Fremantle whilst waiting to board we watched as a mother and calf dolphin swam 20 metres away in the harbour.

The island here has a unique and unmatched beauty and all the wildlife from the quokkas to osprey and New Zealand fur seals. I would definitely recommend a visit to this slice of heaven on Perth’s doorstep. The volunteers are good but it is a bit hot or miss. I have had a couple of guides who are really good and switched on and a couple who were really not. Perhaps there is an issue with inconsistent training. Definitely worth a visit. Be warned though once on the island you pay slightly higher ‘island prices’ so if you want to save money and are going for a day visit it may be worth bringing a packed lunch with you from the mainland.

My husband and I took two overseas and three interstate family members on a day trip to Rottnest Island. The ferry from Hillarys Boat Harbour is just 45 mins. We took the bus around the island and you can hop on and off as often as you like. It was a fabulous day with perfect weather. I highly recommend this experience. It will definitely leave you wanting to return another day or week.
