Wilderness Island Amazing

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 June 2023
This holiday was fantastic. We hired the whole island so 4 couples. We did eco tours, fishing, feeding fish, mud crabbing, swimming, snorkelling, kayacking, walking on the beach, beach combing and it was all so good. The host Jim and his offsiders where great and so knowlegeable. Jim's cooking is amazing. We never had the same thing twice for any of the 3 meals and snacks provided each day. We had fish, squid, mud crabs, fish soup, pasta and the list goes on. The accommodation was good. Each chalet has its own private view. So we all had an eco chalet with ensuite. Jim warns you of the sandflies and you have to constantly cover up and use repellant but the exoereience of the island and everything else certainly outweighs this downside. I would not hesitate to recommend this unique experience.

My husband and I spent a wonderful four days at Wilderness Island. It is a truly unique experience with great hosts, Jim and Kim (and Tommy!) along with Brody, Hannah and, guest chef, James. Great food and plenty of time to wander the beach, take in the views across the gulf and just relax. The fishing expeditions were fabulous: Brody has a wealth of knowledge with an amazing skill for spotting fish!

This trip had been planned for a while. I was celebrating my 50th and my brother was also having a much deserved break away. We are both mad keen fisherman myself more than my brother. Options are endless here for fishing and the area pristine.
Accommodation is wilderness glamping. Comfortable beds in a shack overlooking the water. Shower is the inside of a large water tank with nice hot water. You come to this place for the people. Jim, Hannah and Brodie were fantastic hosts. All of the food was top notch and most was caught fresh that day. I definitely need to go back to explore more of the fishing options and just to catch up with quality people. We had the island to ourselves the first few days but at capacity it only takes 12 people. You have to get a small plane out to the island and on the way you are spotting whales and dugongs.
I learnt a new squid catching technique and have renewed my interest in fly fishing thanks to Brodie.
This experience may not be for everyone. There are sandflies and kangaroos that bite your feet. If you want a bit of adventure and like the more rural type experience this is where you will get it. This could be my yearly or every couple of year trip.
Thanks again Jim and the crew you are all magic.

Room tip: Take sunscreen and sandfly repellent. Be ready to relax.

What a privilege to have spent 4 nights at Wilderness Island. There is something about this place that touches one's soul and upon departure one is left feeling grateful to have had the opportunity to experience it at least once, yet hopeful and planning to be able to visit again and share it with family and friends.
The location is remote and unspoilt whilst being only a short 10-15 minute flight from Exmouth (which itself seemed quite remote for us city slickers until we found Wilderness!). Jim and Kim have built something that is down to earth and comfortable, yet also authentic and the best experience we've ever had of genuine Aussie hospitality! Unfortunately we weren't able to meet Kim or Tom on our visit, so for us Jim was no doubt the

We absolutely loved our relaxing 5 day stay on unique Wilderness Island. So many unforgettable experiences. Incredible range of marine life, spectacular scenery, wonderful hosts (Jim, Hannah and Brody) who made us feel so welcome, and sunsets that are next level beautiful. You can do as much or as little as you like. We went on a fishing charter, crabbing expedition, ecotour, snorkelling, had long walks on the beach and a private, warm, salt water bath right on the beach. But it is also essential to spend time chilling and enjoying the peace. With no light pollution, the night sky is brilliant with twinkling stars and the Milky Way. We cannot speak highly enough of our holiday on Wilderness Island! It’s good for the soul!

The 4 day experience with 9 other crazy creative adventurous women built so many wonderful, funny, zany, adventurous moments with eco tours, fishing, swimming, walking on isolated beaches and more that we are planning our next holiday to this perfect remote secluded idland.

The meals prepared by Jim and Hannah were incredibly delicious …. gourmet style in the outback on a remote island … so delicious one could not resist going back for more.

Jim, Kim, Tom and Hannah were the perfect hosts and they went out of their way to do whatever they could to make our holiday as memorable as they could.
