“Whale Shark Swim is amazing - Don't pay over $160!”
Reviewed 1 November 2011

We chose Ningaloo Reef Dreaming because we went near the end of whaleshark season and they were offering the trip for $160pp (normally around $370 mark) and the other provider in town was charging $285pp (with a no whaleshark - full refund gurantee).

It was a fabulous experience no doubt with the whale sharks and I would definetly do it again (at the discount price as I believe anything above this price is blatant "screw the tourist" price).

The skipper on this tour was very unfriendly and not helpful in the slightest. Two of the crew were informed and friendly and I didnt have any dealings witht he third. There was no interaction between crew and guests during the boat ride out and back and no music played... I had assumed as it was a tourist attraction that they would have ice breaker games and encourage mingling etc on the boat ride.

The boat itself was not in the best condition and I got the impression it was simply run by backpackers who were stationed there during the season.

However, we were there to swim with the whale sharks which we did for about an hour in total which was amazing and definetly recommend it is something you must do when visiting. The cost is questionable as I feel anything over $160 is laughable.....so go at the end of season!

“Great crew and a successful find”
Reviewed 23 August 2011

I went on a trip with these guys earlier today (23/8/11). The whale sharks are supposed to be gone by now, however they are hanging around while the food is good and the water is not too warm (still 24 degrees celsius, so boardies for me). Ningaloo Reef Dreaming was charging $160, as opposed to the usual $370 on account of it being low season. Only one more operator was running tours, they only had one a week though and were charging $299. Only discernible difference was theirs included a guarantee of swimming with a whale shark. Ningaloo Reef Dreaming did not, however as people had told me they had seen them every day, I figured it was worth the risk at half the price. They have their own plane, so they have even more of a chance of finding a whale shark than the other operators who hire sometimes inexperienced pilots and share their plane with many other boats during the high season.

Long story short. They had 2 full boats out there with 20 people on, 10 in the water at once (the other boat went off to its own whale shark). The weather was beautiful. The boat was good quality. The lunch was simple, but tasty sandwiches you made yourself. The crew were all excellent, including the proprietor who lead our boat, David. Most importantly though, we swam with multiple whale sharks and everyone on board had a blast.

In regards to some of the other negative reviews on here, it seems some people are blaming Ningaloo Reef Dreaming for the weather or their own inexperience. If your kid is 4 years old and can barely swim, what makes you think they can swim in the ocean (yes, the ocean, not a protected bay) in bad weather with a fish that travels at 4-5km/h?? And, if it is bad weather, say you want to go another day. If it is your last day, why did you book it in your last day?? Try it on your first day and this gives you opportunities to move it to a later date if you need to. While a few of the stories on here sound bad, some of the people on here seem to be blaming the operator for things that are outside of their control.

I would recommend these guys to anyone. However, if you are going to come up here, remember the weather in whale shark season is hit and miss as it is winter, so it can be a bit windy. Check seabreeze.com.au and book a tour on a day with low winds and swell. It isn't rocket science! Rain can be fine, but if the seas and swell are up, you will be in for a rough ride.

“Bring your brochure with you - things that are said to be free in the brochure are payable on board”
Reviewed 7 August 2011

We had a great day out with Ningaloo Reef Dreaming. The weather was very good and we did get to swim with a whale shark. We were a little disappointed that they only got us to swim with one whale shark and "ticked the box". There was no effort to find a second whale shark to swim with.

The lunch on board was good with options for vegetarians.

The brochure we picked up at the Visitor Information Centre mentioned a free trial dive and a lower price than they tried to charge us. When we booked they agreed to the price mentioned in the brochure ("oh that is an old brochure"). Nobody mentioned anything about a charge for the trial dive until we were in the shuttle bus back and the tour leader asked us for $55 per person! We didn't pay because we were not told there was a charge and the brochure said it was free.
