“Avoid - Cost cutting central.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

Recently returned from a 11 day break at the Golf View with my girlfriend. This trip was supposed to be special for her birthday. Greatly let down by this pathetic excuse for a hotel.

Rhodes is lovley and friendly, plenty of things to see and do by bus and taxi from Afandou. Just please don't be another sucker and book this hotel. If you are looking for a hotel look for the "Georgia" as this is over the road and what you would expect for a 3 star.
The Golf View was clean and tidy including the rooms......but,

Had warm water once out of 11 days...coincidentally on the same day that a coach load of folk came for the night because of the strikes.

Food was bad to start but became better as the time progressed (maybe getting used to it). The food was never hot, always luke warm or cold, pork pork pork pork pork chips pork pork chips. Breakfast - always the same.

Drinks are watered down & flat, even the soft drinks. Im not a big drinker but I tried most things on the all inclusive list just to get one that was drinkable. I actually saw the old fella who works there poor half a beer for a guy. He then put it under the bar "out of view" and topped it up with the cold water from the bottom of the ice bucket (21/10/11). I wanted to tell the guy but didn't speak english. Also the vodka ran out for one lady and as he opened a "new" bottle, there was no crack of a seal at all.

The best thing about this hotel was meeting some top people (no not the 3 staff who have a seperate business selling tiles!) who were also not impressed, although we did have so many laughs which usually included the state of the Golf View.
The surroundings outside were a bit tatty and below par, this could be excused if the above was ok but no. Oh and that horrible spray painted wall thing outside the pool is just so tacky! Bear in mind we went in the mid october so just at the end of their season, but this does not excuse their running of a hotel. Yes it was quiet and not peak times but doesn't make a difference to how you should be fed and watered. The only type of holiday I can imagine suitable for this place is a group of mates who just want to go on a week bender who just want a bed. Then again....you can't really get drunk on water.

Room Tip: Please dont book & save your money.

Everthing Alan B and Vickie have said in their reviews are true. This is an awful hotel more like fawlty towers. We have been on all inclusive holidays before but have never experienced this. Eat in Afandou - lovely food and friendly people.

We booked an all inc. week at the Golf View, from which we have just returned. Our expectations were realistic, as it was a relatively cheap late booking, but even so, this was not a hotel we would revisit.

The food, as you may expect on a cheap, all inclusive deal, was a breakfast, lunch & dinner buffet. However, the breakfast was identical every day. The milk for the cereal was powdered, and usually warm. The tea/coffee was from a machine, and barely drinkable at times. Lunch varied a little, but usually consisted of tasteless pork (I'm guessing it was por, anyway), oily fried potaoes and cold chips. Dinner was almost alway pork too, and similar to lunch. There was always plenty of bread, but cheese and ham rolls for breakfast became monotonous after the second day. Suffice to say, we ate out far more than we had been expecting to prior to arriving. God help you if you're a veggie...

The room was adequate, although you had to get up at 6am for a shower that wasn't cold - and even then it was barely luke-warm. We discovered later in the holiday that it was adjustable, as a fellow holiday-maker had had enough of cold showers, so called reception to ask them to turn it up for him, which they did.

The all-inclusive bar allowed, as is usual, the 'local' drinks to be free from 10am-11pm. However, the 'lager' was watered-down hugely. The vodka/rum etc. was undetectable in a mixer, and the cocktails were brightly coloured but equally non-alcoholic. Once, I even went up to the bar one afternoon to get another 'beer', and was told, quite coarsely, that I could not get another until I had brought the empty glass back. Maybe understable if it was 10% proof, but ridiculous under the cicumstances. It was also a regualr occurence to stand at the bar for 10 or 15minutes waiting for service, only to find the staff at the reception on Facebook. One evening, the free 'beer' ran out at 9.30pm, with no apparent option to change the barrel (of water, I assume), and if you fancied a decent bottled beer, this was usually not available either.

The pool is adequate - although we never ventured in - but is predominantly in the shade for large parts of the day. Behind the pool are more sunbeds and a grassy area, which is unkempt. The sunbeds are also unadjustable, so it's flat, or nothing - quite a problem if you fancy chatting or reading, etc.

Considering the Golf View is in Afandou, and 20 min walk to Afandou Town (which is nice, but small) or a bus/taxi to other places, such as Faliraki, Rhodes Town, the standard of food, drink and facilties is way below what you should expect, even for a budget. We enjoyed Rhodes Island overall, but this was because we spent 90% of our waking hours away from the accomodation.

Room Tip: Look for another hotel.

We booked this holiday through Olympic as we had previously been on self catering holidays with them, however this will be the last Olympic Holiday we go on. The hotel was poor standard even for Greece. The shower head didnt work properly it was hand held and the cleanliness was grim. We had pipes running down the wall in the apartment which meant we have a constant running water noise in the room, the beds were hard and all linen including the towels was stained. This was also our first all inclusive holiday (which we have now been put off of) The food every day was pretty much the same so if you dont like pork I wouldnt bother looking. The choice was appalling and if you are a vegitarian you will have to live on limp salad which isnt changed for the evening meal! The drinks are so watered down that NO ONE in the whole hotel EVER got even slightly tipsy, all the soft drinks taste the same - soda water. The beach is pebbly and would be dangerous to walk too, the hotel provides a bus service but drops you in a remote location with no facilities so remember to take a drink! The trip to the acropalis was the only good thing of the whole trip. We complained to the rep on the holiday and he did nothing other than offer us another room but one was only availble for the last three days of the holiday. We also complained when we got back to Olympic and they have just fobbed us off with a reply making us sound like we are making a fuss over nothing and they stated that the hotel is a three star and that all hotels have variants on what is provided. The also didnt read the complaint properly as gthe things they mentioned missed the points we were making. The also said that the only review the ratings if enough people complain!
