Oh the farm sanctuary. Have you lost your connection with earth? Do you need to reconnect with yourself? This is the place to go! The gorgeous, simple sanctuary is where you need to go! Not just the sanctuary but also the surrounding area...the finger lakes. The farm sanctuary offers a peace that you can’t get many other places. The views, the animals and their stories. One of my personal favorites is barn car, Sorella. Go there!

This place is one in a million, heaven on earth for animals and people alike. When the world gets me down I head to Farm Sanctuary to give me hope in humanity once again.

The Farm Sanctuary is accessible via a dirt road off a main highway just north west of Watkins Glen.
The Tour guides are very knowledgeable about factory farming and the meat industry. The animals at the farm are all rescues from various farming incidents (escaping the slaughterhouse, etc...). Tours were about an hour. The fee is $10 for adults. Wear comfortable closed shoes- a lot of walking. The guide invites you to pet the animals on the tour. This farm also has accommodations if you would like to stay. Beautiful mountain setting. Breakfast is served if you stay there. It is a 15-20 minute drive back into town. A nearby neighbor has self serve MAPLE SYRUP! Definitely worth a visit if you are in Watkins Glen.

Spend a few hours interacting with rescued farm animals, learning about our food supply and factory farming. Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable.

We stayed in a tiny house and it was great! The animals, the tour, gift shop and breakfast were all great as well. There is a state park (Sugar Hill State Forest) just up the road that you can walk to and hike in. We went to see the old fire watch tower and climbed to the top. We also volunteered at the end of our stay and we were glad we did. We worked with the team to clean out the pig stalls and then hopped on a gator with weed wackers and went to work on the electric cow fence - cutting down the weeds.
