We have been at cerf island resort for our honey moon. The service has been awful, the personnel was completly uninterested in our good stay, creating a cold air. The only positive note is about the habitations, simply beautifull...unfortunately you have to climb a hill to reach them!!!!

The hotel is actually pretty nice. The island is very peaceful and relaxing. The rooms are great and the scenery is beautiful. The shower outside was our favorite. The resort has great potential, but the poor quality of service definitely ruined our experience.

We wanted a place to just get away and relax. The island resort was exactly what we were looking for, however the staff on the resort was so rude that I would definitely not recommend the resort to anyone.

There was not a single time in the 12 nights that we were on the island that our dinner order was taken correctly. The food was almost as bad as the service. Its a mystery how someone can take fresh fish and completely make it uneatable. The restaurant likes to pretend that its 5 star with offering you amuse-bouche at the start of the meal, but pickle wrapped in old ham or buttered cracker is not a great way to start the meal. I hate to say it, but it only got worse from there. The soups did not have a single vegetable or other ingredient in them, they tasted like they came straight from a powered package with just water added and the main course was difficult to chew at best.

The drinks were very expensive by any standards. We live in Moscow, which is also very expensive and the prices here were even higher. We don't mind paying on the high side for a good drink, but when you are paying a lot and the quality is very poor it does not add to the experience.

The staff needs a lot of training in making the experience enjoyable for the guests, this especially goes to the wait staff who serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They don't smile, they don't acknowledge your presence, they don't even try to get your order right when all you are ordering is a salad and a tea, they don't apologize for making a mistake and they are just plain rude to you throughout the dining experience.

If the quality of food is not important to you and if you are okay with service without a smile, then you can give this place a shot as the rooms are nice and the island is very peaceful, but I am sure that for the same amount of money you can get a much better experience in the Seychelles.

It is a boutique hotel, only 12 rooms run by a couple. The villas are great, very airy and spacious, the bathrooms are huge and open air. Some of the rooms have really great views of Mahe. It is basically a very quiet resort, you can do kayaking, snorkeling, chill in the pool. The food is nice but the service takes a while. You can do day trips to neighboring islands.

Cerf island is actually located in the middle of a marine park, so there is abundant aquatic life around. To get to Cerf you take a 15min speedboat ride from Mahe island (the hotel will organize). It is a good getaway place, but if you want to do sightseeing you have to head back to Mahe or other islands.

I can't understand why people push their ignorance as fault for others (details later).
We went to Cerf Island Resort on our honeymoon and believe me writing this review brings back the great memories. The kind of reviews I read (read bad ones) I was a bit reluctant to make a booking here, but took a chance. I am glad I did. This place is simply amazing, we were made to feel at home with personal touch right at the moment we arrived till the late night departure at 10:30PM.

Let me start with every single thing and then you can get a better idea:

Resort :
The resort is really great! Its a mini paradise I would say. Each and every Villa has its own privacy. The path to go to your Villa is so nice, it feels like you are in a Jungle paradise. One of the staff members Deepak took us to the Helipad (top of the island), and it was amazing to get a panoramic view of nearby islands, and not to forget the beautiful sunset. I can't find any thing negative about it.

Villa :
Luckily we were able to book the Hideaway Villa "Karkasay" which has a breath taking sea view from the big balcony. The room was big with an open bathroom with shower. As we were on our honeymoon our bed and everything else was decorated the first day, which was so nice. We are non-alcoholic so the staff took care of that and got as a chilled non-alcoholic welcome drink as complimentary. Every day we had the bed made up both in the morning (while we were gone for breakfast) and in the evening (when gone for dinner). So no complains here.

Food:
Let me tell you both me and my wife are pure vegetarians, not eating egg either. We were really surprised the way our good preference was taken care of. We were surprised the variety of vegetarian dishes we were served. Every morning at breakfast the Chef would come and take our inputs , which was really nice.
One thing which I agree with others is the unfriendliness of (read only 1-2) staff members, who really served you as-if they are taking pity on you. But that does not matter a lot if you don't care :-)
On the other hand you can't expect a fast food experience here, it takes time (not so much though) in dishes being served. But thats the whole point you came to relax and not to catch another train :-)
One thing which many have expressed, the very high prices. I can't agree more. But take my advice, try to include a Full Board while booking, it really helps ! A big CAUTION though, in a full board, drinks are not included. So even if you take water, that will cost SCR 50, which is unreasonable. Since this is one gray area, the management should think on it.

STAFF:
The staff was first rate. They gave such a personal feel to us that we really enjoyed our stay. Both Michael (sorry if I have written her name incorrect) and her husband made us feel welcome. Either one of them would come during breakfast to take our feedback and any thing we needed which was very nice. They have few Indian staff who were really friendly with us. Specially there is a guy named Deepak who showed us his towel skills was a nice experience. As mentioned earlier, chef was very friendly and took our inputs for the dishes he made. All in all no complains whatsoever.

Overall:
This resort is highly recommended. Please don't go by the negative reviews, give a chance (specially try for Full Board), you will never regret. This is really a special and romantic place to be !!

Went for a relaxing holiday and got what we wanted - very peaceful and in a beautiful setting.

I have to agree with many of the previous reviewers comments apart from the fact that the manager has now changed (was new when I arrived) and I found him nothing but helpful and attentive.

The Tortoise Suite we stayed in was fantastic (we had a second living room and bathroom which wasnt necessary). Great jackuzzi bath and lovely large terrace with great views.

Small but adequate pool.

The restaurant was the biggest dissapointment. No atmosphere and limited menu. Fish was very good on occasion but they seemed to employ three chefs there so was variable in quality. Bar was always empty - this is a very small and quiet resort (was ok for me as we were looking to chill out this time). Staff were perfunctory in their work - English was not great and they made little effort with the guests to make any conversation.

I would advise anyone going to grab a Kayak and go round to the north side of the island which has a fantastic deserted beach - we had it completely to ourselves for three days! Also you can reach Moyenne island by Kayak which has Turtles (for a 20 EUro entry fee).

Also grab a drink and walk up to the helipad for sunset - has the best 360 degree view of anywhere in the Seychelles.

Good snorkelling around the island - albeit I hadnt realised before I went that 90% of all the coral reefs in the Seychelles were destroyed in 1998 due to coral bleaching (rising sea temp). You will see plenty of fish but its a sad sight to see all the dead coral.

Had a fantastic massage from May at the Spa - however get the feelign she wont be staying at the resort much longer and will be moving back to Thailand.

As mentioned elsewhere - food and drink was expensive for what it was, predictable and uninventive. Cocktails were nice.

So all-in-all room and location was great, very quiet but the hotel was let down by the average food and lack of atmosphere in the restaurant and the lack of effort from many of the staff . I had heard that this lack of service is typical in Seychelles I went to the Banyan Tree one night for dinner which was superb (albeit the Banyan Tree is twice the price of Cerf Island).

Possibly a good Hotel by Seychelles standards but Im not sure Ill be back. They are building a new restaurant and pool at the resort which is opening in Q4 so this may make it a good place to go.
