First stay at this hotel and Mauritius for two weeks . On arrival at breakfast time rooms not ready however did not have to wait long around 30 minutes . Had the chance to have breakfast if you wanted or take advantage of the other facilities .Got people complainig about room not being ready but check in time is not till 2pm officially but the hotel worked hard to get rooms ready as soon as possible . It is not the hotels fault in regard to flight schedules and that there is over an eleven hour flight from the UK .The hotel is in a lovely setting near the ocean and the grounds are full of trees and vegetation giving it an air of calm and relaxation . The hotel is rated as four star but there is no room service provided .

Considering it was the start of their winter it was very hot and humid average daytime temperature 26- 27 centigrade We did have some rain but normally short showers and went away just as fast and dried up in the heat . We got bite despite using insect repellant .

We had a seaview junior suite with a jacuzzi and sun loungers on the balcony .Plus points for the room included a king size bed , safe , fridge restocked daily , plenty of storage space . Negative points where it lacked comfortable seating and the mattress
was past its best . It had a large walk in shower which unfortunately due to the design leaked water onto the floor however much you tried to prevent it . The handle broke on the shower door and was fixed next day after being reported for a second time . The housekeeping for the room was a bit hit and miss sometimes towels replaced daily other times not and bed turned down of evening other nights not . On one evening a hand towel was placed on the floor by house keeping to mop up excess water caused by shower I presume but the hand towel not replaced with a clean one !

Found the staff overall to be very friendly and courteous . The food was of a good standard generally . We ate in the culinarium and Kot Nou resturant once . The culinarium offered some dishes with a supplement which I do not agree with, I think all inclusive should mean all inclusive but this is not an isolated case other sensimar hotels do this also . The Kot Nou was a small intimate setting outside unfortunately Mauritiun food is not exactly our favourite . My husband particularly struggled on the Mauritiun theme nights in the main restaurant . Breakfast Same everyday would have liked to have mushrooms maybe on occasions . We did not have lunch very often only a couple of times once at the street type vendors near the Kot Nou which is Mauritiun food and once in the main resturant . The drinks /cocktails were reasonable again supplements charged for branded drinks . The waiter service at night was generally good .

The low key entertainment of an evening could be described as average at best . The Sunday night group were very good however . They had a couple of cultural shows . There were activities during the day but we did not take part in any .

I had some treatments at the spa which I felt were expensive and felt a little underwhelmed by the experience .There is a small shop selling things like toiletries , beach wear and souvenirs .

We travelled on a package holiday with Tui . Rudy the rep got us some chairs for the room when we mentioned the lack of comfortable seating . He also sorted us some excursions on the island all by private car .

Overall we had a great holiday but not sure we would go back as it is a long flight and there is a big world to see.

We found the hotel and the food really enjoyable and the staff were great. We had booked a room with a sea view and this was ideally situated on the ground floor overlooking the main beach. The room wasn’t very large but it was comfortable. We asked to look at a suite while we were there but this wasn’t a lot larger than our standard double-room so we stayed in room 103 overlooking the sandy beach. The sea was quite warm and there’s a reef that tends to help the water in the bay to remain calm.

The hotel is on the north coast, which is surrounded by field after field of sugar cane. The island is quite different in the South and I would definitely recommend you explore the island as it is very different as you move away from the north. The airport is in the southeast and most of the attractions are in the south or the southwest of the island so most journeys tend to be in excess of an hour - the roads are quite good though. The TUI rep organised two island tours and we also attended a horse-racing meeting in St. Louis with hospitality in an owners box, which I would definitely recommend. During one of our trips we had a 20-minute helicopter ride over the under-water waterfall which was amazing.

The weather forecast frequently changes so don’t pay too much attention; the forecast showed 2 weeks of rain before we left the UK and although we had some rain we mostly had gorgeous weather and about 24c throughout our 2-week stay. The forecast also changed frequently while we were on the island.

The hotel’s inclusive buffet restaurant had a wide variety of dishes and there is also a BBQ by the beach and burgers or salad in the upper pool area. We had dinner on one occasion at the Culinarium Al La Carte restaurant (1 visit per stay) but it wasn’t very enjoyable as they had lots of very nice chargeable options on the menu but only 3 fairly boring inclusive options for each course - they promote the chargeable food options and the chargeable wine very hard. The staff in this one restaurant were rude and completely forgot our sweet until we asked for it and we found the evening service in the Culinarium to be awful.

The small sandy beach is very nice and we didn’t have any problems finding a sunbed. There are also plenty of beds by the 2 pools or around the walled area beside the beach. The weekly pool party was great fun and DJ was really good.

The biggest problem around the hotel was the wild dogs and cats. The dogs increased in numbers during our visit as more guests threw food from the restaurant windows. The animals don’t interfere with the guests but they bark for attention and it’s very off-putting as the staff don’t seem to be addressing the problem.

The spa is very small and is not impressive, although the treatments were enjoyable. The entry door for the steam room is in full view of the reception waiting area, with an outdoor shower. The changing rooms are situated on the opposite side of the reception area to the two treatment rooms and no robes or slippers are provided at the Spa so it’s necessary to wander across the reception area with slippery feet and wrapped in a towel to have a shower after a massage. Fortunately the towels are quite large but its not very professional.

We were surprised that the prices outside the hotel are very expensive and as an example we stopped for lunch on one of our trips at a small simple restaurant and we were charged 3,500 rupees (about £86) for four small chicken currys, 4 beers and 2 soft drinks. We were also surprised at the very high prices charged by the islands rum distilleries and the various souvenir shops.

Overall we had a really enjoyable stay and we saw lots of sights but it’s a shame this hotel is 11 hours away from the UK and a further 75 minutes from the airport.

Room tip: Room 103 (Ground Floor) was in a good location.

My wife and I are just completing a two weeks holiday at the Sensimar lagoon.

The hotel is beautifully appointed, with fantastic views, well layed out, good facilities and we cannot sing the praises of the staff enough. In our two weeks, we have not met a single member of staff who has not gone out of their way to ensure that we have a great time. The rooms are cleaned to a high standard, daily, with fresh towels provided, as requested. The hotel grounds are professionally maintained to a very high standard (well done to the grounds team). The bar and restaurant staff cannot do enough for you.

I have seen some reviews that level criticism at the food. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have holidayed much during our lifetime, and so have a reasonable breadth of experience when it comes to things like this, and the food here is nothing short of excellent. The food in the buffet is excellent and if you venture into either the Cullinarium or Kot Nou restaurants, the food really is first class. The lunchtime cheeseburger in the Cullinarium is definitely not to be missed!

The beaches are largely comprised of finely crushed coral mixed with sand, which I recognise is not to everyones taste, but the beaches are white and beautifully maintained and for the time of year that we stayed here (hotel was approx. 80% full), we were never hunting for a sun lounger. Swimming from the shore is easy with crystal clear waters to meet those who venture in (do wear water shoes, though, just to be safe: as there are potentially, stone fish and sea urchins that may be trod on, if you are really super unlucky to find one underfoot).

Every evening the hotel puts on live entertainment, which in the main is pretty good. There is also a good range of daytime activities for those who do not wish to venture out or bathe in the sun all day.

The only negative remark that I can truely make relates to check in. Others have mentioned this already, so I will not labour the point, but it is a bit of a protracted process. To the Sensimar management team, for guests who have travelled for the best part of 16/17 hours to get to the hotel, this really needs to be addressed. Guests should be able to access their rooms within 20 minutes of arrival, as they will be exhausted and will, almost certainly want to freshen up, before starting their stay.

In closing, we would just like to thank all of the staff who helped make our stay so enjoyable and memorable. We will definitely be returning.

Paul

I have just returned from a weeks holiday with my husband and we had a fabulous time.
The hotel is lovely but its the staff who really made ourstay special. Everyone was so warm and helpful.
For food we loved the food huts for lunch and the Kot nou were fantastic in ensuring my husband had a lovely birthday meal there. They went above and beyond to make our evening special plus the food was lovely too. We loved the beach bar and the staff there Vinesh, kosall, divesh and Shashi were all amazing, friendly and served great drinks. Nothing was ever too much
The Pool party on saturday was fun and my husband especially liked how they converted the conference room into a world cup viewing room showing all the games.
We went out and visited grand baie and nasus at reception helped us order a taxi and was helpful in sorting it all out easly for us.
Slight downside is the room could have been cleaner but we didnt let that ruin iur stay.

We spent 2 weeks here on our honeymoon and we had the best time in simply paradise!
Every single member of staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you.
Stunning views, immaculate gardens and grounds.
Plenty of sun beds and places to chill.
The food was excellent with plenty to choose from and a varied evening buffet. Lunch at the beach huts and lounge bar were our favourites. The evening a la carte restaurant was also very nice for our "romantic meal".
We went on the evening sun set cruise on the catamaran which was fab, we had so much fun with the skippers who provided great entertainment.
Brilliant memories, thank you so much for making our honeymoon so special.
