Three times I've been to the Blue Cairn now. I'm in love! And I can't wait for trip number 4! The house is an old abbey brimming with charm and authenticity. The beds are comfortable and the wi-fi works well. The kitchen is quite large and fully stocked with anything you could need to prepare large family meals. The yoga studio is a wonderful thing to have on site, with three beautiful teachers leading classes throughout the week. You've never had a better view from a yoga studio! Indeed, one can just sit at this location and marvel at the views. But why just sit when your rental house sits directly on the GR de Pays and the Tour du Val d'Azun? There are at least four beautiful hikes right out of your door, including a wonderful rando up the Mont de Gez. Dozens of other hikes, including the cirque de Gavernie, are a short drive away. The house is in Arras-en-Lavedan, a lovely small village with everything a hiker needs: a boulangerie, a bookstore/restaurant with vegetarian fare and IGN hiking maps for sale, and an old fountain in the middle of town with the sweetest water I've tasted. It's a great place to fill up water bottles and bladders before a long day of hiking. A 5 minute drive gets one to the town of Argeles with its many shops, restaurants and Tuesday morning market. All of this is an easy 30 minute drive from Lourdes (served by plane and train). Want to hike the Pyrénées? I can think of no better base than this beautiful old abbey. Salut!
