Friends and I made last minute decision to overnight in skaneatles. Thrilled we picked the Packwood House. We were in 3 rooms on 3rd floor, all with balconies on the lake. Everything was first class -room amenities, beds, towels, furnishings. Room and lobby clean and nice. Included breakfast at Sherwood Inn was acceptable. LOCATION WAS PERFECT!

We recently stayed at the Packwood House, part of the family of properties owned by Sherwood Inn, and loved it. The rooms are in a new building, above retail space. The room was so comfortable and yet modern. It was in a great location across from the lake and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. For being on the main road and above a clothing store, it was incredibly quiet. I haven't slept that well in weeks!

Room Tip: We actually stayed in the cheapest room and loved it. There are rooms with balconies looking over t...

After researching the Finger Lake region, my husband and I (early 60's) recently spent a Sunday and Monday night in the Packwood House. Selected totally at random after checking Trip Advisor for the best hotel to stay at. Check in is at the Sherwood Inn, a two minute walk away. There is underground parking and outdoor parking behind the building. The elevator is inside the parking garage. You would not realize the building contained a hotel, the bottom floor is a Talbot's and another small business. I recognized it from pictures on Trip Advisor. We drove right to the Sherwood for check in then drove the 30 second ride to the Packwood. We were in Room 308 - based on the recommendation we saw on here! Huge room, very large balcony, great view of the lake. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. There is also a little mini kitchen with a little fridge (that was actually very cold), microwave, little sink and coffee pot. The room was very clean with the exception of some mold here and there in the bathroom shower. We also had a whirlpool tub. The door to the balcony does not lock (not that you need it on the 3rd floor) but there is a trick to making it stay shut and it opened up twice during the first night from the wind. We eventually figured out the trick is pulling up on the handle. Another small issue is when the a/c turned on the compressor in the closet buzzed twice then it turned on...sounded like an alarm clock and woke me several times. The 2nd night was much colder and that never happened. You can't beat the location of this hotel and the view was excellent. There is a lot of traffic in front of the hotel - especially trucks - but it would not stop us from returning. The view and location made up for that! A continental breakfast at the Sherwood is included - coffee, tea, orange juice, scrambled eggs, home fries, a cheese platter, cold sliced ham, pastries, cereal. Breakfast is served on the porch overlooking the lake. It was very nice. There is a beautiful park directly across the street with a public beach area, a very long pier to walk out on, a gazebo and loads of benches. It was busy with people walking and just enjoying the spring weather. I'm sure in season the place would be much busier. Would we stay at the Packwood again? Absolutely! Lovely little town, very spacious and comfortable room and nice people at the Sherwood.

Room Tip: Room 308-huge balcony with a table for 4-great view. Large trees in front would block view from oth...

We loved our room at the Packwood house! It was super clean, bed was really comfortable and the room was very large. The decor was fantastic! Breakfast was included next door at the Sherwood inn which was a nice accommodation! I would recommend to others looking for a place to stay in town across the street from the lake !

Skaneateles, NY is a charming very walkable small town, right on one of the finger lakes. Since our room at the Packwood House was so nice and the town so interesting, we extended our stay for a couple more days.
(Skaneateles is pronounced approx. Skinny-atlas if we believe the local beer label)
Packwood House is part of the neighboring fine Historic Sherwood Inn, so a very good breakfast is included next door in the sunny Sherwood breakfast room. We enjoyed walking the town, going out on the boat tour (the Judge Ben Wiles ship) and visiting the Lavender Festival outside of town.
