There is dining then there is dining, I have eaten in restaurants all over the world, and in this small but quaint room i had one of my most memorable dining experiences ever. Do not for a second hesitate to try this place when you are in Rhinebeck, NY. The menu isnt extensive, its just simply put " SPOT ON" Great service, great food and a dinner I will remember for the rest of my life. Will return! Locals if your not eating there your loss.

The Tasting Room at Gendron Catering is an out-of-the-way provincial restaurant deserving of 5 stars. Small, intimate, set back from the road, we didn't know what to expect but as soon as the couple (Chef and Roslyn) introduced themselves we knew we were in good hands. It felt more like dinner friends than a restaurant. But there is nothing informal or ordinary about the food - really marvelous, farm to table, passionate cuisine. It was one of the highlights or our trip.

This place has everything! Greeted at the door by Destiny, the restaurants lovable golden retriever, we were welcomed into an intimate dining room with a clear view of the open kitchen and the Chefs precise preparations. The reigning chef, a Culinary Institute graduate and second generation restauranteur, serves up a curated selection of 3 courses every night. We came by this place, nestled into a sleeping residential community late one Friday night. We pulled into an empty car park and we seated in the an otherwise empty restaurant, slowly pulling off our coats with the uncertain smiles and resigned expressions of late night travelers with few other options. However once the first appetizer arrived we relaxed completely into what felt like an incredibly decadent night of having the place to ourselves with our fabulous hosts. Chef was born in Japan to a jazz singer mother and restauranteur father and is a disciple of classic French cooking. We were steered to some great choices by our server Roslyn. We had the crab cakes appetizers and shared the grilled Branzini, chicken and steak entrees that were each extraordinarily in their own ways. If you want to feel like you are dropping in on an old friend who happens to run a fabulous French restaurant out of his sitting room - this is the place for you!

We absolutely enjoy dining at The Tasting Room !! Chef's passion for food is second to none and we enjoy the interaction you get with him in an intimate atmosphere. All the tables in the small dining room have a view of the kitchen (basement garage of his house) the ambiance has improved over the years we have been going (it takes time we understand) but the real attraction is the FOOD !!! Usually the menu consists of 3-4 appetizers 3-4 entree and 3-4 dessert choices . The menu changes often so call or check Facebook for current menu . They also have a full liquor license now ! So let's get to last nights dinner: crab cakes , Peking duck , and pot de creme for my wife and I had : lobster bisque , diver scallops and strawberries with zabaglione !! Absolutely AWESOME !!!
