My husband and I made a last minute decision to get out of the city for the weekend, deciding on upstate New York. After countless answering machines at the larger, commercial hotels, we decided to try a bed and breakfast. My first call was actually a living person...and yes there was a choice of accommodations, and YES, we could bring our 8 lb. dog without incurring extra fees!! We were to arrive around midnight, and as she said, the lights were left on...door unlocked...fresh fruit...freshly baked pie waiting for us. There are multiple rooms and even a perfectly appointed mobile home...all as clean, comfortable and well-appointed as the next, with attention to detail that Hilton got too big to remember to include!
We woke up , went into the kitchen for great coffee , fresh fruit bowls served at a table beautifully appointed, (linen napkins in rings!) and asked what we wanted for breakfast. As the owner is a gourmet chef, I left it up to her. .as good as any 5 star establishment!!
In the evening, there are acres of manicured property with a pond, fire-pit, swings, games, which we basically had to ourselves. Most of the rooms have a private bath. You can't expect total privacy at a B&B, but the proprietors set the rules and the tone and do not disappoint. I enjoyed their company more than I would have preferred the confines of 1 room. The main living area with fireplace, t.v. etc. was so inviting I spent most of my time there. As far as we are concerned, to stay anyplace else would be a let down and we plan to be regulars. The proprietors are the salt of the earth, and we are grateful to have found this hidden gem! Maureen and Bruce Hoberman

The set-up at this B&B is not ideal. The good part is that the owner is very accommodating - she allowed us to switch our dates several times due to weather and other issues. We also had run of the house, including kitchen use. However, our room was right next to the owners' room and we could hear them all night. It wasn't a restful sleep. Also, the television is down the hall and on a lot, and we could hear it clearly in our room. The living room was very much a shared space. It was pretty much always occupied by the owner. We don't have cable at home and it's nice at a B&B to watch a little tv, but to do so we would have had to ask the owner to please give us the remote and change the channel. There's no tv in the room. Normally at a B&B we hang out in the living room just as a change of scenery, which we did here, but it definitely had the feel like we were intruding.

We paid extra for a room with a whirlpool tub but the tub was very old and not nice. I only used it because I felt I had to after paying the extra money.

The location is great if you want to ski on the BREIA trails, but I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you are ok with earplugs and aren't planning to be there much.

Management Response

We're so sorry these guests didn't connect with us while they were HERE, regarding their complaints, so we could have better met their needs! Our welcoming letter, left for each guest, always asks for suggestions/concerns, trying to make everyone comfortable about speaking up if there's anything at all we can do to make their stay a better experience. At the ages of 65 and 75 years old, and going to bed at quite an early time, I'm not sure what noise they said they heard "all night" in our room? Yes, my husband DOES enjoy watching TV but always asks guests if there is something particular they would like to watch when they're here. Perhaps he missed stating this during the visit of these guests and will certainly be more aware of that in the future.
