Off the main road, Riviera is worth looking for. The food is amazing, cooked by chef/owner Tom. Very accomodating to allergies and requests. Fun, informal, and the best Italian food around! Portions are large and a very good value.

Family style Italian Restaurant. Have been going here for years. Large portions usually take home half. The salad is huge, enough for two. Always have specials. Very reasonable prices, not a pretty restaurant but all things considered pretty decent. Drinks are very reasonable priced, staff is very pleasant and has been there for ever.

The Riviera is tucked away on a side street....but it is worth looking for. The staff is warm & capable & the specials are always interesting. In summer months they often feature soft shelled crabs, which they prepare to perfection. The also will tempt you with short ribs quite often as well. Their pastas are all done well & our special favorites are their salad to share & the cold green beans with Gorgonzola in Vinaigrette. The prices are very reasonable & the service is always fun & way beyond what you usually get @ a chain type place. The proof that the place is great is how many enthusiastic 'regulars' are known by name to the staff.

Excellent fried calamari. Delicious entrees of fish, veal and chicken had by all. Great dessert selection. Only drawback is amateurish wait staff, wrong dish brought to table. Had to wait for correct dish to be cooked. But for delicious old-style Italian food, this is the place. Was there two weeks ago.

This is a decent restaurant in desperate need of professional management. As one or two other reviews noted, they appear to manage a crowded Saturday night by making people wait to sit at empty tables to allow the kitchen to catch up with orders. It's popular because it does have pretty good food and is quite inexpensive relative to other restaurants of the same caliber, and if the management/service matched the prices it would indeed be the hidden gem others say. The staff tries, and is friendly, but there's not enough people working for the size of the place, and I assume keeping the staff so lean is how the owners can keep prices so low. I also have to assume the owner/manager just doesn't know how to manage a busy place that doesn't take reservations for fewer than 5. On the other hand, it's always busy, so the incentive to change isn't there.

Four of us arrived on a Saturday and put our names down for a half hour wait. Two tables set for six sat empty, despite the fact that one could have been turned into a four and a two right away. As it happened, and as I saw others note here, one of those tables was never used the entire night. Two large parties in the room were taxing the kitchen, and when a table for four did open about 40 minutes later, it wasn't cleaned and reset for at least twenty minutes and we had to ask if we could at least sit there and get bread and water while we waited to order. We also asked for some bread at the bar for one of our party who needs to eat regularly and were told "they" didn't like to do that.

Once seated with their great bread and inexpensive but decent wine, our spirits revived. The food, when it arrived was good, as usual, in large portions. And while the atmosphere could use some updating, it's quaint and homey, with low lights and a great Christmas train display. I find it soothing. If only they staffed up to meet demand and and handled the walk-in crowd more adeptly, this would indeed be a hidden gem. But for now, I'd say only go when the likelihood of crowds is minimal, in other words, not on weekend nights.
