This looks like a tiny place, with VERY limited parking, but once you get inside of their multiple buildings (these buildings used to be shops for the Plattsburgh base airmen to work on their cars), this is an amazing collection. Many of the vehicles in this ever changing collection are on loan from classic car clubs and investors and the collection varies almost week by week. Quite a number of the cars have relatively recent NY inspection stickers on them, some from 2017, and get driven in shows, for special events (many for weddings), etc

This is a guided tour, with one of their car experts. In our tour, more than two hours, we learned the history of car making in Plattsburgh (after coming up here for almost 50 years, I hadn't even known there was such a thing), car making in the US and Europe, the social impacts of automobile transportation, etc, etc, etc. And all of that was tied into looking at all these beautifully restored cars and trucks.

Absolutely worth the visit!

This slightly crowded collection of cars and transportation artifacts will entertain people of all ages and interests. The guided tours are tailored to each tour group's interests and are loaded with details. The die cast collection is the most extensive I've ever seen in the USA and it's a museum unto itself. There are also big railroad exhibits, bicycles, cars of all sorts and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. The museum specializes in Lozier cars and boats, which were luxury items built in Plattsburgh. Highly recommended.

Four of us took a ride to Platzburg, NY this past week. We got there at 2 pm and were told the museum was closed. We were disappointed and started to go. Then Richard Soper, the tour guide said he would take us on a quick tour. His tour was anything but quick! His love for this amazing museum and the history contained there would not allow him to skip anything. The cars, boats, trains, bicycles and engines came alive again as he shared his knowledge and love for this museum. If you are looking for a one of a kind experience I suggest you take a ride to Platzburg and meet Mr. Soper and all his vehicles!
