“Splendid Cabin! Splendid Creek!”
Reviewed 18 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Many thanks to Veronica for a wonderful weekend getaway! Our specific occasion was a relaxed 6-person "bachelor's party" (for which a secluded--yet not inaccessible--cabin of creek-side / fire-side lounging was the perfect setting). The cabin is situated just outside the quiet town of Phoenicia, between two majestic mountains, and with the idyllic Stony Clove Creek right in the backyard!

The cabin itself was clean and cozy, yet perfectly suited to 6 adults, with ample linens, dishes, and other amenities. As part of a simple "real house" feel, the charming gas fireplace is controlled by remote thermostat, the HDTV has both cable television & an open HDMI port (for any other accessory), and a Wi-Fi connection combined with a bluetooth sound system made for an easy music setup. Overall, the "Sanctuary" cabin is ideal for a ***worry-free weekend***.

[Cell service may have been lacking, but honestly… that's a perk.]

In addition, Veronica's convenient House Manual put most of the Catskills at our disposal. It provided a plethora of information: hiking maps, dining locations, activities, and pamphlets -- not to mention an idiot's guide to the cabin itself. If there were any remaining questions, she was of course just next door, but otherwise very few things were left un-thought of.

As for dining, Tavern 214 was a charming first-night delight! Upscale dining for a reasonable price, the tavern was an easy 11-minute walk from the cabin. As for breakfast, the Phoenicia Diner was especially delicious (just as the House Manual indicated), and certainly prepares you for the day with its many hearty breakfast options. Plenty of dishes and cutlery (including a grill) also make for an effortless stay-at-home meal.

The biggest selling point for the cabin, however, is of course the backyard creek. A tributary of the Esopus, the Stony Clove Creek begs to be sat by, or (if you trust your footing) even waded in. When we first arrived, the temperature was cool & dewey -- which suspended a serene mist just above the north side of the creek. A perpetually lovely sight to behold, our weekend-long access to this gem of nature was undoubtedly the highlight of the trip.

Would definitely recommend. Would definitely come back!

So glad all of you had such a good weekend! I agree - the creek is a "gem of nature" and I'm glad you were able to enjoy it, as well as many of the things the area has to offer! Thank you for taking the time to leave the house the way you found it. I hope you be back!

“Perfect for a weekend getaway from the city”
Reviewed 10 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Just like others, I can only say positive things about Veronica and Jon and their little home away from the city. We arrived around 4pm on Friday, the house was all ready to go, and the fireplace was burning. We couldn't wait to go into the back porch to experience the creek and that is where we met Veronica who brought us a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate Mother's Day and Terry their little dog! While at the rental, I felt that Veronica and Jon were our old friend/neighbors who would be there if/when needed. After they saw my sister having back pain, they brought her a back brace! They were just very comfortable and caring people.

And then my adventures began - I discovered I had a flat tire when I went to pickup dinner. Both Jon and Veronica jumped to help me suggesting where I should go - Kingston if I wanted to fix the tire right away (the closest place for a 24 hour service or Hunter next day). And when they felt I was taking too long at the tire place next morning, they were planning on going to rescue me. Phew, it wasn't needed.

Staying in Phonecia also had its pluses - it's away from Woodstock with its busyness, but close enough to the reservoir and other local places to explore. I couldn't go on a hike because of my companions, but saw just by driving a lot of animals - deer, field mice (on the road), groundhog, heron, lots of squirrels, eagles, and geese (unfortunately didn't see any bears). Also, on the other side of the road there is a waterfall that sounds amazing at night, and the view from the dining area is great - awesome green lawn.

Overall, this place is perfect for a weekend getaway from the city - it is a home away from home, its charm founded in a regular home setup without it being made into a "charming" (read small, over-stuffed with furniture) place. My favorite parts were the dining area, the fireplace, and the shower (loved the showerheads!). The beds and pillows were really comfy, and there were plenty of towels for a large group of people.

We didn't get to meet our host, Veronica, who was away for the holiday, but we were immediately impressed with her beautiful home and fireplace! All the amenities we could ever ask for, plus more--a huge fireplace, charming decor, and such a beautiful, breathtaking stream right outside our door!

The location was perfect as well. So close to the town of Phoenicia and only about a 20 min drive to Bellarye Mountain and Woodstock (full of craft stores). We enjoyed a flavorful dinner at Peekamoose Restaurant (very busy, make a reservation), which was also very close to the house.

Our stay was better than we could've imagined, and we are already planning our next booking.

The house is real gem - newly renovated and totally thought through. There was everything we needed for our family with three little kids. The garden is extremely well kept and the view over the stream and mountains is amazing. We appreciated having the owners of the house live next door. They are very friendly and assisting. The town of Phoenicia is lovely and we enjoyed the kids' activities in nearby towns/parks as well. We definitely recommend this property.

Veronica was very welcoming and provided my friend and I with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The home is newly renovated, clean and included everything to ensure a relaxing stay. The property has beautiful views and staying in and cooking as well as enjoying a beverage in the backyard was peaceful and relaxing, just what we were looking for. This place is definitely one I would call a home away from home. I highly recommend a stay at sanctuary by the stream, definitely worth it.
