“3 minutes to downtown old forge!”
Reviewed 23 July 2018 for a stay in July 2018

When we arrived I didn't realize I needed to know a pass code to get into the cottage. I didn't know the information was sent to me through TripAdvisor, two days before my arrival date. I called Amanda the owner but it went to her voice mail. I texted her, letting her know I couldn't get in the cottage and needed to know the pass code. She texted me back 15 minutes later saying her husband would call me. He did and told me they sent the information to my email. I never got it in my email. I guess he meant they sent it through TripAdvisor. He told me the code number. Owners do not live close to the cottage to maintain things in good working order. I sent the owner Amanda a text message, with pictures, the day before we left telling her a few things she should have whoever checks on the cottage do. Number 1, the gas grill was unusable as there was no grill brush, but even if there was, the grease was so thick inside the grill it is a time bomb. The charcoal grill is missing the part that hold the coal from falling through the huge hole on the bottom. We made a make shift holder out of foil. On arrival, when I went to put my grocery's in the refrigerator and freezer. I had to empty the refrigerator of a whole big garage bag of other tenants food and sop up a lot of water. Much was expired, many condiments from 2017.The refrigerator leaks inside and we had to use the vegetable drawer to catch the water. We emptied between 2 1/2-3 cups of water out of it daily. This was a big part of the refrigerator we could not use. The cupboards were so filled with other peoples left over food. I combined them all into two big deep cupboards to make room for the food I brought. Note to owner, people do not want to eat leftover's from other tenants. The outside swing set is in need of repair. The wooden ladder to the slide is missing a step and the other steps are loose making it dangerous for children to climb on. There were many other minor problems, (ex. coffee pot leaked and we couldn't use it, blue ray DVD in small bedroom doesn't work, way to many broken kids toys in all the bedrooms, etc.) that if the owner lived closer and could check on they would be remedied. When I sent the owner, Amanda the text message I told her I just thought she needed to know these things and I would not give any review positive or negative. Her reply was, "We have done this for 6 years and knew right at the moment you checked in we would not do justice to review you either. Safe travels home." Her husband was rude to me on the first day when he gave me the code to get into the cottage, Amanda's reply to my text was rude. I am a good person and left that cottage much better/cleaner than when we arrived. The cottage is clean and spacious and decorated very nice. The location is good. I do want to thank Amanda for letting me bring my Grand-Dog. Robin

Dear Robin, to address your 3 concerns:
1) The grill grates have been cleaned.
2) The short wood slat on the playset that the prior guest accidentally broke was replaced.
3) We've always had positive comments on condiments/pantry items being supplied to help guests during their stay.
I'm so glad you found the house to be clean, spacious and well decorated.
Our family loves the ADK and are thankful we get there alot. : )
