“Great”

Old Bethpage Village Restoration
Reviewed 10 September 2018

Had a great day with the kids here. Beautiful and scenic. Transport back in time to the Long Island colonial era, before the current third-world invasion.

Very well preserved and presented village showing how life was back in the past on Long Island. They have taken a selection of period homes, businesses and other buildings and created a village complete with working blacksmith, farm, schoolhouse and many other things, and stocked it with wonderful and educational characters in period dress to tell the stories of those days.

There are 2 Escape the Rooms, we did the "easier" one, which was the Haunted theme. DEFINITELY CREEPY!! it's multiple rooms, not just one, which made it even better! The puzzles you need to decipher were difficult, very impressive! We went with 4 adults and 2 children, and we did not make it out in an hour. Can't wait to go back again! The other theme, they said, is not scary but it's harder. As far as the rest of the place is concerned, there is incredible history here. The employees are extremely knowledgable and friendly! Tours and education were great!

Visited Old Bethpage Village when I was a kid, and returned 30 years later with my family. The kids enjoyed it, as well as we adults. It's charming, not too big, but spread out enough to feel like it's a nice retreat from the surrounding towns.
Plenty of live actors present to ask questions, and enjoyed the collection of old houses they relocated here for preservation. I wish there were more to this village, though. Still a nice half day excursion.

If you go on a weekend when activities are going on, you could easily spend 3-5 hours here. Aside from visiting all the historic buildings, you can watch and talk to reenactors, watch a battle reenactment, watch an old time baseball game, or take photos of all the architecture and scenery. Check website for events going on. Very entertaining for most anyone. And it is great they have restored and are preserving so much history.
