“Great location and perfect base for exploring Provence”
Reviewed 19 January 2012 for a stay in December 2011

We enjoyed our stay in Beaucaire very much - the flat was well equipped and generously supplied with things like washing up liquid, salt, pepper sugar, loo paper which was a welcoming touch, not to mention the bottle of Rose in the fridge.
The internet setup with printer (and paper!) and Freebox was a great advantage as we have all our family in South Africa and needed to make frequent calls which were free.
The kitchen was well equipped and mercifully so as I had to cook Xmas dinner within a day or so of arriving.
The only weaknesses of the flat were the very thin walls which meant sound proofing is very poor. And the shower took a while to figure out as its a bit like a space ship and its something I'd consider replacing with a less fussy, more straightforward and effective one.
However, once one figured it out, it worked OK.
Fortunately we went away for New Years Eve to stay with an uncle in the area so we missed a huge NY Eve party in the next door Casino - we heard the sound checks and we would certainly not have got any sleep that night had we stayed there.
The verandah was as lovely as described and we managed to sit there on various sunny morning for breakfast, despite it being a bit chilly.
We also stored out bicycles there which was helpful.
We did not really explore Beaucaire as we found it a bit seedy and uninviting - upon arrival we were struck at how few local French people were visible - mostly immigrants which we have heard is due to the nearby factory.
We however enjoyed wonderful jogging along the Rhone which the flat looks onto, and heading off in different directions each day to see the many attractions the area has on offer. Indeed its very close to the main national roads which take you just about anywhere so a good place to use as a base. Also it was a lot cheaper than equivalent places in e.g. St Remy de Provence and the posher towns of the area!

Liked best: Very clean and well equipped with a lot of thought going into what the tenants might need, want.
Liked least: the shower, the area which is pretty seedy, though looking out towards the river its possible to ignore this!

Management Response
20 Oct 2011
We are sorry these guests were disappointed.

A few clarifications: The terrace belongs to the apartment. It is not shared. We own another apartment that also can access the terrace. Our tenant uses it once in a while to drink tea in the early mornings, but only with permission. She does not use it if our guests request that it not be used. And the terrace is spacious and beautiful.

As for the furniture, linens and cleanliness, we suppose these things are subjective. Our caretakers do a thorough cleaning before guests arrive and are very attentive to any problems. They are available by phone at any time. The furniture is comfortable and, if not the most expensive, is certainly attractive and usable. The bed mattresses are very high quality. We suggest that guests who need top-quality furniture should consider staying in five star hotels. That is not the purview of a middle-cost vacation rental.
