Nice accommodation, very friendly staff in the resort. Geraldine is a very caring owner who stays well in contact and will offer help whenever. I had a splendid holiday with my husband and kids.
I had a lovely stay at Geri's apartment. Everything in the apartment is accurately described. The apartment offers plenty of amenities which is part of the resort. The city of Santa Maria is only a 5 minute taxi ride. Overall a pleasant experience and a fantastic holiday.
My and my friend stayed here in July and had a lovely time. The place is amazing and lots to do if you want to, if not you can just laze on the beach as the views are out of this world.
Geri was brilliant and always on hand via text/email if you need anything. The hotel is lovely and if you wish to go all inclusive you can. It's nice that you have the option. You can pay for meals at certain restaurants if you wish which is nice, or go into Santa Maria (try the ocean cafe, it's fabulous!)
We did the sal island tour and turtle tour with blinkys. The island tour was brilliant but the turtle tour wasn't good (far too many people there as all the tours turned up at once) we did message blinky about this and although we got a response, we were basically told no one had complained before and a 'sorry' then ignored so sadly we missed out on booking a sailing trip and won't be using them again in the future.
Overall the apartment was excellent and catered to everything we needed, along with the support from Geri if needed.
Lovely place and lovely people.
We had an amazing time at Dunas.
We flew with Thomas Cook, had an uneventful flight that arrived on time. Took a few minutes to clear passport control, Thomas Cook sort the Visa for you as long as you've entered your passport details at least 10 days before arrival. (included in the price of the flights). Baggage reclaim took about 20 minutes but that was no problem, on exiting the baggage hall we were gratetful to bypass the long Thomas Cook transfer bus queue and be met by a friendly taxi driver who took us to the hotel. Transfer time was 20 minutes and cost 15 Euros.
We only took Euros and never bothered to change any into CVE as we could pay everywhere in Euros. Occasionally we got CVE in change but just used it to buy things.
Checked in at reception (again bypassing the long Thomas Cook Queue) and were given a band (for security). We chose not to upgrade to All inclusive and are glad we did.
The apartment is clean well stocked and comfortable. 2 Large Leather Sofas a Kitchen, outdoor seating area, airer to dry your stuff and a washing machine. There was never anything we needed that we didn't have. Geri the owner was very helpful, always replied to our emails and sent lots of information before we arrived. The bed was really Comfy 2 pillows and a duvet cover was all we needed. It was 28 dyring the day and around 19 at night but we only had the air con on now and again as it was a fairly cool apartment anyway. we were never too hot.
There was a loaf of bread some Butter and Milk in the fridge when we arrived which was lovely. We unpacked and went to explore around the grounds. The hotel is large and takes about 10 minutes to walk end to end. (its actually 2 hotels in one but if you're not utilising the restaurants you wouldn't know.)
We went to the supermarket located in the Villa Verde resort next door. its right in the middle of the resort and about a 10 minute walk. They had everything we needed for breakfast and lunches. Go in the morning to get fresh rolls/bread/croissants they tend to sell out by the afternoon. Milk, coffee, tinned goods fruit veg meats. (ham cheese etc). Its closed on Sundays.
We spent our days by the pool by the room as it was the quietest and had the least kids! We found that as it was a busy period (over Easter) we had to put our towels out at 0830 and were usually by the pool by 0930. The water is cold but it was actually fine once you were in! There was a constant breeze which was very welcome as it was 28 every day without a cloud in the sky.
We ate out in Santa Maria most nights. 4 Euros each way in a taxi and for 2 courses and a couple of beers it was around 50 Euros. Not cheap but I don't begrudge paying it as everything is imported and they make a real effort to make you feel welcome with what little they have.
We found the best was Marea, we didn't make Chez Pastis but hear good things so be sure to book a table, it was sold out the whole time we were there.
We never went to the entertainment on the resort but could just hear it from the room, it was over by 2200 and never bothered us. The Area was very quiet and we slept well all week. Never heard the neighbours (there were people in both rooms adjacent). The Tv has many english channels BBC World, Discovery, Nat Geo, and a few TV/Film channels (often with portuguese subtitles). The DVD player works fine too. There are many books/board games if needed.
We did Blinkys Island Tour and can't recommend it enough, 25 Euros for a whole day.
We reckon the whole holiday for 2 adults including taxis meals excursions flights and accommodation cost us about £1300. All in all a fantastic holiday would highly recommend it.
