“Great Value in Lake Placid NY”
Reviewed 11 November 2011

Great value for Lake Placid- Stayed here when our usual place in Saranac Lake was unavailable. Will probably stay here next time. With our corporate discount we got a clean queen room with large screen TV, refrigerator, table and chairs, bureau and desk, hair dryer, wireless internet (did not use) and cold breakfast for about $71 dollars before taxes. The hot water was hot and the heat worked. Some interior corridors in auxilary buildings. Heard another guest through the wall or outside glass to terrace, but quiet most of the night. On the edge of town but no more than 5 minutes to the center. A bit dated but who cares. Stay here, ski all day, and save your money for the many interesting restaurants.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have the big flat screened TV.

We booked this hotel for one night. The room was OK and fairly clean. It wasn't as nice as other places I've stayed but for the price it was adequate. The facilities like the pool and hot tub looked fine but we didn't get the chance to use them. I would probably come back to this place again.

We booked this because it was inexpensive and near to the trail heads at Adirondack Loj, but found we got so much more for our money. The person at the desk asked if we had any of the memberships that would enable us to get an even cheaper rate (we did, we belong to AAA). The room was large, clean with a large and fully stocked bathroom (more towels than we've been given in "better" hotels and motels). The Lodge has a guest washer/dryer room, and an indoor pool. It is very conveniently located to both town and the hiking trails. It was clean and the desk staff were helpful in every way. Highly recommend. We will be coming back when we hike up here again. Note: there is a continental breakfast available, but we were out too early to try it.

We booked this hotel because it had an indoor pool for the kids and was reasonably priced. It is a trek outside of town but we never had much trouble finding a place to park, considering that Lake Placid was swarming with tourists. At first glance, the room was disappointing--bare bones decoration and furniture that had clearly seen better days. But the room had a refrigerator which we took full advantage of and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. The continental-style breakfast is served in the small lobby, consisting of coffee, juice, muffins, cereal, etc., Didn't try the outdoor pool across the street because we spent a lot of time in the small but cute & clean indoor pool and hot tub. The kids loved the pool and most of the time we had it practically to ourselves.

Room Tip: Great for families on a budget. Just don't expect to be able to walk into town.

My husband and I stayed at the Econo-Lodge in Lake Placid for one night, 8/27/2012, to celebrate my husband's birthday. We arrived and were quickly admitted (having made the reservations and pre-paid online). All the lady asked for was our license plate number and signature... no credit card for "incidentals"... nice! She didn't have much to say, other than to give us directions to our room and to inform us that a continental breakfast would be served the following day from 7-10AM "in the basement." I think that in the future, the staff should consider rephrasing that to "breakfast will be served in the lower level." "Breakfast in the basement" doesn't sound very inviting.

Our room was 212. No elevators, so we had to drag our bags up the stairs. The hallway looked eerily like a hospital psychiatric ward, only devoid of people. It also kinda reminded me of "The Shining."

Inside the room, there were two queen beds, a dresser, an older model TV, a very old model telephone (no, not rotary but still, old), a breakfast table with two chairs, a nightstand with alarm clock and a writing desk with chair. Oddly, there was no place to plug in my computer near the writing desk, so I had to use the breakfast table to do so. The hotel's wireless network was difficult to get onto. After 20 minutes of having no success, we called the toll-free help line. We were on hold for nearly 10 minutes. Finally, a live person came on JUST as we got online. I remained online long enough to do some important things, then I lost my connection again, never to get it back.

TV worked okay, although not all of the channels matched up to those listed on the channel guide. Iron, coffee maker and hair dryer worked fine. Phone reception, when we called the aforementioned 800-number was very static-y. The beds were very comfortable and we got a good night's rest. Bathroom floor was a little dingy. Otherwise, the shower worked alright and the towels were clean, soft and absorbent.

Our room did not include a microwave or fridge.

Total cost of our overnight stay, with tax, was $111.56.

We decided to forgo breakfast in the basement, instead stopping at Howard Johnson's on our way out of town.
