“Overall excellent stay”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

Our group of 3(including one teen) stayed in the Table Top Suite during president's week . Location is very central, walking distance to Olympic oval, retaurants and stores. Accomodations were very comfortable and the finishings were higher end(granite counters, walk-in glass-enclosed shower. We had a nice partial view on the lake). We missed having a fireplace(we had one during our last stay a few years ago). For such a nice suite, the kitchen equipment was limited if you really wanted to prepare food: no corkscrew, no ladle, limited number of glasses, plates forks and spoons, no oven, only 2 ringed stove. The sink to wash dishes was tiny(not sure what prevented them from putting in a standard sized sink in the renos). Lots of layers of stuff for the very comfortable bed that had to be removed every night(unnecessary-would have invested that money in a proper sink). The pool was renovated and quite enjoyable. If you go in the winter, be aware that the truck bringing the sled dogs for rides on the frozen lake parks right under/beside the suite and one hears their howling every morning, didn't really bother us. Overall, we had a lovely stay.

Stayed in Golden Arrow in Deluxe LakeFront King Bed room for 3 nights in March 2012. Have to admit that our top reason for staying in this hotel was its expansive Green program since we are the kind of people who make environment a priority whether at home or travel.

The hotel is all it claims to be, the description on the web site is genuine. Some special positives and not so positives things that we observed are:

Positives:
a. Large entrance area with an open fireplace and the view of the WhiteFace mountain provides a warm space to hang out, read books, relax.
b. Big underground car park with power for electric charging; which we used for charging our wonderful new GM Volt.
c. The Green Bag; a small gift bag offered to guests who arrive in a green vehicle - a warm sentiment.
d. VIP Parking for guests who arrive in green vehicle - they have 1 HYBRID parking space on street level and it was occupied, so, we used the underground car park instead.
e. Helpful staff - Helped with procuring lift tickets for the white face, cancelling lift tickets (for the day we chose to laze around in the room) and anything else we needed.
f. Pet friendly - A hotel employee brought her own dog, a lovely Golden Retriever that she graciously allowed us to take for a walk.
g. Generations restaurant - Even though we didn't eat at this restaurant, we spend quite some hours between 4- 6:30 having tea/ coffee and reading our books. The staff is friendly and generous. Too many restaurants have problems with people occupying seats if they don't place large orders. Of course, we didn't hog the seats around dinner time. Warm and friendly restaurant with some seats next to street-facing windows.

Not so positive:
a. Heating in the room was not the best - The heater worked fine and warmed the room generally but since it faced the bed, it can blow on your face when you are sleeping. Turning it off would naturally make the room cold (in March). There was no easy solution.
b. Hot tub was a bit too hot to our liking- maybe other people dont mind such hot temperature..
c. Pool was too cold- perhaps that was the reason why almost no one was using it. We wanted to, but decided against it as soon as we touched the water in the pool.

Other things worth mentioning:
a. Lake Placid is a town with a pretty main street. Its best to allow at least half a day roaming around the street and its boutique shops.
b. When you go for this walk, don't forget to stop at "Big Mountain Deli and Creperie". The crepes they make are out of this world...!

During March break, by the time we checked in, we were able to use the pool so we were not inconvenienced, the hot tubs were functioning as was the steam room.

Great location for walking around town, very close to stores and restaurants. We always have breakfast at the adjacent restaurant, no complains here. We haven't had a chance to try the bar, we're always out during happy hour.

I agree the rooms are kinda worn out, in need of a modern make over and comforters dingy. Aside from that, what keeps us coming back is the location - I really love the scenery and the view from the balcony is stunning. During the summer, we enjoy swimming in the lake. The hotel is one of the few that has a small, private, pebbly stretch of beach and we use the kayak or rowboat around the lake.

My family travelled to Lake Placid during the March break. The hotel was very nice, and the price was excellent. Unfortunately the pool had some mechanical problems while we were there, it was very cold with cloudy water the first day, then closed the second, but it was up and open on our third day. The steam room was wonderful, pool and hot tubs beautiful. The activity room needs updating and is in an odd location which may explain the pool table in need of repare. There is also a ping/pong table and foos ball which can be used. Over all the hotel is very good, great location, we would return.

Room Tip: Rooms with two double beds and a view are great (balcony nice, summer might prefer ground floor to w...
