8 of my girlfriends have been hiking in this region for 20 years and we always stay here whenever possible. Our last visit was this past weekend - October 14-16, 2016. I am so happy we stumbled upon this place; it is our home away from home in the mountains, and the proprietor Wayne Failing treats us like family. The house and the cabins are rustic, well appointed and cozy. The roaring campfires in the evenings bring the guests together to share stories of their days' adventures. Wayne is something of as celebrity in town and is great story teller, and you can't beat the price. I suspect we will be returning for the next 20 years!

We really enjoyed our weekend stay in one of the cabins. It was snowing outside and we were warm and comfortable in the little cabin. Comfortable bed and linens, everything thought of for the kitchen, great shower. We had a great time in Lake Placid and would do the cabins again!

We spent a lovely 2 nights at the cabins in December 2015 The cabins are just as described in the previous reviews... small but very cozy and quaint! The area is beautiful and we really enjoyed our little cabin! We didn't make use of the kitchen except for tea and coffee but there were a bunch of pots and pans and looked sufficient to make a simple meal. The cabins are nicely positioned about 15 mins from Lake Placid where we spent most of our time. Wayne, the owner, was very friendly and helpful from our telephone booking to our arrival. It was a bit too cold for a hike but we hope to come back in the warmer months to enjoy the beautiful area. The cabin had indoor heating which worked perfectly with no issues!

We rented one of the cabins (the Iroquois) as our base for a long day hike up Marcy and Skylight. The property was easy to find, very quiet, fantastic views, and comfortable! Cabins have all the amenities you need to cook and feed yourself, Adirondack chairs for relaxing outside, common firepit and picnic tables, wifi, and an excellent host! Would recommend in a second.

The Iroquois can sleep four (a bunk and then an adjacent twin), and is a quick 4-5 minute drive to the Adirondak Loj and a 10 min drive to Lake Placid.

Great stay at Van Hoevenberg Cabins. Keep in mind that this is not a 5 star hotel but a Cabin so no chamber maids to clean up after you. Very rustic atmosphere & great experience. We rented the Algonquin Cabin that sleeps four people. My teen aged son enjoyed sleeping in the loft & loved his own little space. Our bed was on the main floor & very comfortable. There's coffee maker but you have to bring your own grounded coffee. Pots & Pans, plates, glass, mugs, cutleries, pretty much everything basic you need to cook are provided. Gas stove was very old & a bit rusty looking but clean. The cabin has this tobacco kind of smell which is probably coming from the wood so we just burned the scented candle the owner, Wayne, left for us. There's a designated Barbecue & fire pit area so we had a camp fire one night.

I highly recommend Van Hoevenberg Cabins, in my
opinion this is the best place to stay in Lake Placid. It is about 8-10 minutes away from Main Street, close to the Olympic Jumping Complex, Luge ride & other attractions while still being able to enjoy the tranquil sceneries.

My family loved our stay & how clean the whole property was. We will definitely come back. Thank you Wayne Failing for making our stay at Lake Placid a great memory to remember. Please check out Van Hoevenberg Cabin's facebook page too.
