Namib Desert Lodge is a big lodge, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, but too expensive compared to what you get.
The food was ok, but nothing special.
The rooms for 3 people is fairly small and not much space for storage.
Nice gesture, that the guests get a welcome drink and a cold towel when arring at the lodge.
One has to be careful though when going on the sundowner / walking mountain tour, as a bit confusing and people get lost at night.

This is a good Lodge to stay with kids. However it is far from Sesriem ( Park entrance). It takes 1 hour until Sesriem and 2 hours until Sosusvlei.
Breakfast and dinner buffet in a reasonable level. We stayed in a family room which is really big but bathroom looks very old.

Plusses:
Nice houses, good beds, beautiful location, friendly staff
Minuses
Quite far from Sossusvlei, Not so great food, Accommodation pretty basic for the price.

An important point for us is that if you want small scale, personal and intimate this is not the right place. The Lodge has many houses and caters for several tourbusses full of tourists. This means you do feel a bit like a number.

Also, I feel that for an upscale location they could offer more activities.

The hotel is the only one situated inside the park - which allows for earlier driving out to the dunes and staying later - as one does not have to travel when the gate opens and be out before the gate closes. However, the lodge is very expensive. Service is very slow - and the parking arrangement is ridiculous. I can understand why it was imagined - but it does not serve the purpose. The hotel is also in need of a bit of TLC (maintenance).

This hotel offers wonderful views of red fossilized sand dunes. The entrance/reception and the restaurant both have a very charming atmosphere. The two pools (one under maintenance) are relatively large and surrounded by nicely shaded resting areas and there is also an outdoor TV-bar. Rooms are smallish and entirely lack the African style which characterizes the rest of the place; rooms consisting of identical concrete modules lacking personality. Breakfast was surprisingly poor. Staff was kind and forthcoming - but the hotel totally lacked information related to the Sossusvlei dunes (some 100 km away), which is puzzling as most people staying here do visit those fantastic dunes (and not all guests travel in groups). On the positive side, the hotel has invested in solar energy and also makes it visible with an informative display in the reception area. Overall, this is a place with many good qualities even if it does not apply to all aspects.
