We came to the hotel for 1 week all inclusive. We stayed in room 303 which was lovely and clean and had a sea view. The facilities were good and it was great to see Boyo the pool boy again! As it was the end of the season we were worried that the food choice and quality might be compromised. Nothing to fear there as the buffet choice and quality was good. All waiters and bar staff were friendly and good. The only negative was they kept running out of ice!
Overall, I thought the hotel was good value and would come back

Room Tip: All rooms are bungalows so no climbing

After being driven to a few hotels, by my airport transport, before arriving at the Sun Beach I was immediately impressed by their entrance and happy with my decision to stay there.

Accommodation is in a group of terraced rooms, some which overlook the sea and some which overlook the pool. The windows on all rooms are mirrored (on the outside) for privacy. My room (303) had a sea view, with the sea latterly about 100 meters away over a low wall and a cactus bed (security). There are also CCTV cameras covering this perimeter (hopefully with someone watching a monitor) and a static security guard at this side 24 hours a day.

As mentioned previously most of the rooms have been renovated. My room was spacious and well equipped, no complaints or quibbles (other than the outer door lock and latch needs a squirt of oil). Shower (no tub) with hot water all the time, good lighting in the washroom. Electronic safe, fridge, good air con (very quiet). Mirrors and electrical sockets are all placed logically for use. Sockets are the 2/3 pin round type, NOT the UK square 3 pin as stated on the internet for Gambia. There is a large flat screen Polaroid TV, unfortunately during five of my seven days the only (analogy) signal was poor making most channels unwatchable. Of the six channels two were English speaking; one BBC World News (you could at least listen to that) the other MBC 2 movie channel. The TV has connections for HDMI, USB and PC inputs.

There is a WI-FI connection all around the hotel and beach, due to extenders being “strategically” located. As the nearest one outside the room block for “House 3” is at the perimeter and not on the building itself the received WI-FI signal is normally only two bars. The vast majority of my week stay I could connect to the Sun Beach network, but could not get an internet connection! This was on three different devices (not all at the same time).

I found the selection of food in the restraint to be good, the food to be plentiful and the cooking to be good. I was pleasantly surprised that the deserts included fruit crumbles and bread & butter pudding. Service in the restraint (for drinks) was a bit hap hazard, so we tended to collect our drinks at the bar before entering the restraint.

Our first trip to gambia.
hotel
very clean and spacious
food... average . would of preferred China plates but unfortunately they were melamine.
beach restaurant very good . but unfortunately you had to pay extra to use . but definitely worth a visit.
staff.... brilliant all of them .
entertainment .... to much of the same thing but they tried very hard .
beaches.... need cleaning .
Fantastic juice bar called Alexs do make a visit to him.
outside the hotel..... you can feel a little intimidated as the Gambian seem to follow you wanting to be your tour guide.
overall would i go back ? not sure . maybe in a couple of years to see improvements.

Have just returned (14-24 March) from the most wonderful trip, first time visit, to The Gambia. It was absolutely amazing in every way. The Sun Beach Hotel, newly-refurbished, could not have been better with the staff being the 'Jewel in the Crown'. All inclusive is great with lots of choice, English and Gambian, not a burger or piece of pizza in site during a 10 night stay! Beautifully located on Cape Point there is a gorgeous beach as well as a lovely pool, all accommodation is on the level which is great if you have a bad knee, like me, if there are stairs a slope accompanies them. This is not a large place just 1 x AI restaurant and an a la carte (mainly fish) restaurant for a small charge, overlooks the sea. Evening entertainment at 9 pm very cultural and enjoyable. All inclusive drinks end at 11 pm quite sufficient, lovely hand made cocktails too! There are a few shops in the street outside hotel and a couple of bars if you want a late drink but didn't try them, quite happy retreating to the room to prepare for the next day. Tried the Senegal trip with Safari and ferry transit all breathtaking and tried the Roots river cruise with delicious lunch, coffees and snacks all included which ended at Kunta Kinteh island the slave imprisonment island... A very humbling experience. Want to return before end of season, can't wait until November! The Gambia Experience staff, hotel rep and Discovery Tours guides couldn't do more for you!

Nice room, great location, amenities were okay-ish (bring your own shampoo and shower gel - the ones they provide aren't great). Pool and beach are just lovely, but there is quite a bit of litter on the beach. I hope they clean this up because its idyllic otherwise. I LOVED the monkey park. Food was also lovely but could get a bit tired if you are there for more than a week. Going to the fish market is also a must, although not for those with a delicate sense of smell :)

Be aware though, there are very few children. Our four year old was totally without playmates, good job the staff are all so friendly!

Another thing to be aware of: if you book though Your Holidays make sure you get a cost breakdown. We dealt with an agent called Tom who charged us extra for in-flight meals, but the meals (with Titan Airways) turned out to be complimentary. So we could have refused Tom's extra charge (£10 per head each way) and we still would have been fed on the plane (we double checked this with Titan staff) He even had the nerve to ask me to imagine how upset my small child would be if other passengers were given meals and we weren't!! So he got a bit more of our hard-earned cash under false pretenses. However, this doesn't take away from what a lovely hotel it is. Just beware of Your Holidays as an agent, and of Tom, in particular.
