The wife was nervous at first but once up in the air that changed she said the ride was comfortable quiet and beautiful. Tom her pilot was great explaining the workings of the plane and the sights of the valley below. Highly recommend the trip. Again thanks Tom the pilot and the rest of the staff for a great trip.

Sometimes flights will be delayed or canceled due to weather conditions. If delayed, no worries! It is greatly worth the wait! The nature and beauty of the flight experience can be easily observed by the instructors and staff, who are eager to pass their love of flight onto you! An amazing experience! I was there as an observer, but next time I may even go "up"!

Our family of five adults chose Harris Hill Soaring as one of our destinations to celebrate the 75th birthdays. Only one of us had flown before (in 1972) so the flights generated much excitement long before our arrival. We were advised to arrive early just before 10am to avoid waiting in line and the opportunity for a smoother ride. We were warmly greeted by Joanie Taylor, the club's office manager, who weighed us and checked us in. There are generous weight restrictions as the sailplane seats can't handle more than 242 lbs. We were allowed to take plenty of photos from the edge of the tarmac as each member stepped into his and her designated high performance sailplane. Harris Hill Soaring is a club and the instructor/pilots are volunteers. I was fortunate enough to draw Ed Funk, an experienced former power pilot who fell in love with soaring 12 years earlier and never looked back. Ed is the Operation's Manager and allowed my 20 minutes of dual time to add to my old (circa 1972) logbook. The attention to detail and service was excellent making this stop one of the most memorable of our week-long trip. Weekdays are best during the mid-June to Labor Day soaring season and the operation is open from 10am to 5:30pm 7 days a week. April and May to mid-June are weekends only. Ticket prices include a visit through the on-site museum.

Did this 5 years ago here before I joined the Army and had a lot of fun. Someone there heard my brother was a Marine and he got to fly for free. Guides/pilots were very helpful and the views were beautiful. Even saw bald eagles off the wing tips. On the ground some guy wasn't the nicest, but it was a small note on an otherwise perfect outing.

Ventured there again with beautiful weather and a clear view of the Chemung Valley. This is a DO NOT MISS if one is in the area. It is the glider capital of the Northeast. It has glider rides able to purchase, several competitions during the year with a amusement park,3 hole golf course, swimming pool and picnic area near by. A extremely nice area to spend a sunny day. There are bathroom facilities available and the views of the gliders taking off and landing is a sight to see. As I stated, a DO NOT MISS if traveling in the area!
