This restaurant was recommended by the staff at Quality Inn. We shared a full rack of ribs and found the portion to be perfect for 2, especially since we were traveling and could not take home left-overs. :) The BBQ was sweet and tangy at the same time. The décor fun and appropriate for the location. The staff was very attentive and quick to respond to all requests

Case de Valdez treated us so well the first time we went back twice. The staff was very attentive and the margaritas were never dry. Sombreros off to the kitchen! Excellent New Mexican food, wonderful environment, good drinks.

we were recommended by a local shop owner that this was the best true new mexican food in town. so we went.....service was terribly slow both at the beginning and throughout. we ordered the whole rack of ribs - caesar salad was very good - "loaded" mashed potato was hardly "loaded"...and also very small in size. we ordered - received our food and the table adjacent to ours (who arrived minutes after us ) were just getting their salads when we paid our check. btw - draft beers are a little pricey so ask before. you could tell that service was lacking as many patrons lined up at the cashiers booth to pay as their servers ( 2 of em ) were scrambling around... ribs were okay - but i think that they were masked by the bbq sauces that they offer with the ribs....would not return and would not recommend.

Casa de Valdez came highly recommended by a local, but honestly, our experience there did not live up to the hype. When I walked in the door with my dad (who is 86 and uses a cane because he has trouble walking) we were told by 3 different servers over the course of several minutes (as they rushed by us) that some one would be right with us. We stood for a good 5 minutes (and I'm not exaggerating) before a hostess ever came to seat us. I figured we were waiting because they must be really slammed with a big party (the way the servers were rushing around), but as we passed through the restaurant on the way to our table we saw that it wasn't really that busy at all. So we have our seats and it's another 5 minutes at least before a server comes to offer to get us water or beverages.
The food was good--we had steak enchiladas and chile rellenos--but service was just slow and lackluster, without very much effort on the part of the server to be at all personable. It seemed like she was just looking past us, or speaking to us as she was walking past us without stopping to fully engage/connect. The hostess however, was personable and on top of keeping our beverages topped off (aside from being nowhere in sight for the first five minutes we were standing around waiting to be seated).
Clearly, based on the recommendation we were given and based on many of the reviews on Trip Advisor, Casa de Valdez has ardent supporters in the Taos community. Just step up the service a little to meet the level of hype that you're getting from the locals. And consider offering an elderly person a seat if it looks like there may be a wait before a table becomes available. That little effort will always be greatly appreciated.

Smoked chicken had no smoked flavor. Green chili tasted like flour and water. No flavor what so ever. Really disappointed! Yuk!
