Paid our money ($6) to see the paintings that were so scandalous years ago. We did not have expectations that the author could paint well. Lived up to expectations. Nevertheless, they, and their story, fit into what we knew about DH Lawrence. The paintings are behind a draped wall. When seated, they are unveiled; a recorded ~10 minute lecture plays. We got bored half way thru but we are not DL Lawrence aficionados. Was a nice, very different respite on our cruise of the Plaza.

ok, we didn't stay here, we looked at it, but decided instead on an adobe house to rent, so I cant review the rooms, the restaurant, or even the bar, as we were turned away.
it was snowing outside, so we went into the lobby to see if we could just spend some time here, and have a drink to pass the time. we are 3 middle aged women, and I don't know what the problem was, but we were just not welcome here.
we asked the reception if there was a bar...and the answer from the man behind the desk was...'no'. that's all...just no.
obviously the hotel does have a bar, we knew it did, but, apparently we were not welcome there, so we just turned round, walked out, and went somewhere else for drinks and lunch. we also did find the bar in the hotel la fonda in santa fe, and, strangely, they did not object to our presence, or our money.
but thanks for the great customer service....it made us feel really special!

We apologize for the curt response to your inquiry. No excuse for that.
The hotel restaurant and bar are actually closed seasonally so it wasn't open.
That should have been politely communicated.

This hotel offers an unique experience and excellent customer service. It is located in a small square in the middle of town. The hotel itself is older and rustic but very clean and inviting. You are a stones throw from a few great restaurants and shops. It's about 30 minutes to the Taos Ski Valley. There is plenty of parking in the rear of the building. Lot's of nice seating around the lobby and rooms where you can sit and drink coffee or play games. The owners are amazing. They are working the front desk and taking care of your every need. I found that the stay at this hotel added to our overall experience where the cookie cutter hotels just can't. This will be the only place I stay while in Taos from now on!

First time to Taos in 30 years so unfamiliar with the local hotel offerings. Saw the La Fonda was on the old town plaza and decided to give it a whirl. Was still only midmorning, so they had no rooms immediately available but front desk clerk was extremely accommodating and helpful - promised a good room with a view of the plaza, advised I could park in their lot now and she would text as soon as the room was available. Quickly headed out to walk the local shops and galleries. Within an hour the text came in, so wandered back and moved in - nicely appointed period historic hotel, room was perfect and with the plaza view as promised. When you bring in your luggage they will open the back door adjacent to the parking lot so there is no need for a walk around the building to the front of the hotel with luggage. Was advised that free coffee and bottled water was always available for hotel quests at the coffee shop located off the lobby on the plaza side - this was a nice extra. All in all, La Fonda was a great find and met all requirements including reasonable pricing in a resort town.

I recently stayed here for a romantic getaway. The hotel was affordably priced, very clean and surprisingly quiet. The location is fantastic-- right on the plaza. It offers guests coffee, tea and hot chocolate anytime in the second floor gathering space with a gas fireplace. The lobby has lots of charm. The staff was very friendly. The rooms are quite small (which is the only reason I didn't give the hotel 5 stars) but everything else is wonderful. We took the quirky "tour" of the DH Lawrence paintings, which was a fun 15 minute diversion. I would definitely stay here again!
