Traveling with a group of 10 friends and family members, we spent four nights at Shindzela. We had previously spent 11 nights elsewhere in Greater Kruger, and had had many animal sightings. At Shindzela, we wanted to see different types of animal behaviors/situations, and that is what we saw. For example, we watched 1) a pack of wild dogs at their den; 2) a hippo trying to scare us away (the hippo stayed in the water, and displayed several behaviors indicating his unhappiness with our presence); 3) several lionesses lounging and moving lazily about; 4) a very, very small baby elephant toddling along as its mother prodded it with her tusks and trunk. Johan, our guide, responded very positively to our informing him that we did not want a "Ferrari safari" -- racing around trying to find one animal, and then quickly leaving that sighting in search of another animal. He provided explanations or commentary when appropriate, but also would let us sit in the vehicle in extended silence when we were in the presence of animals. He also maneuvered the vehicle so that we did not spook the animals, but did provide us with excellent viewing.
In camp, we watched from the lounge or from our accommodations as various animals animals visited the waterhole: elephant, baboons, impala, kudu, and buffalo.
Altogether, thanks in large part to Johan, we had a great stay at Shindzela, and would be happy to return.

Back after two years. This place is just great. The tracker Sam who always smiles, ranger Jaco who quietly enjoys the suroundings and Ralf who just is so enthousiastic and make eveyone laugh. I just had such a great time. I hope to see you all again in the future. Dont change a thing Caroline!!

Another excellent visit to Shindzela - this was our 5th visit here. As always the whole bush experience was second to none. This rustic camp still delivers on all fronts - great home cooked food, friendly helpful staff and comfortable rooms (the addition of a hot water-bottle to your bed at night on a cold winter evening is very homely). The atmosphere and ambience that this camp exudes throughout the day, and especially at night, is really special.
We stayed in Tent 5, which overlooks the small waterhole where we saw herds of elephants and buffalo visit, as well as impala and baboons - its great to just sit and watch the wildlife visiting you.The safaris, as always, were exceptional and as there are only a few vehicles on the property you get really close to the animals, but without affecting their normal behaviour. Also you get to spend a long time at each sighting. We were lucky to be the first people to see wild dog pups emerge from their den - we were not pressured to leave and spent a relaxed time just watching them suckle from their mother - a really rare sighting! The upgrade from Land Rover to Land Cruiser definitely adds extra comfort on the game drives too. Our ranger Jaco and tracker Raymond were brilliant - they found us a Pangolin!!!!! (We have been travelling to Africa for 10 years and this was the first we have seen).
This camp really is a hidden gem in the Timbavati - well priced, small intimate camp with a real bush experience. We highly recommend this camp to our friends, and anyone else who asks. It really is the best camp for an amazing safari experience that we have stayed at. We are already booked to stay at Shindzela at Christmas this year and can't wait to get back there. It will be a long 6 months - we are counting the days already.

I hosted a photographic safari at Shindzela and it was so amazing to get back to where it all started for me!

Great upgrades happened from when I was there last. Particularly enjoyed the free wifi in all the rooms now.

They have new vehicles!!! Land Cruisers are SO comfortable!

Meal times were always enjoyable and the whole vibe within the camp was great as always as it is a small intermit camp.

Rooms were neat and comfy, with a slight technical problem with a shower which was sorted out speedily.

Safaris were AMAZING and as I was hosting a photographic safari, the ample time we got in sightings were ideal! With such a small number of vehicles on such a large property, spending very good time with wildlife is no problem what so ever.

CANNOT wait to get back!!

Room Tip: I'd say Tent 5 has the best view of the dry riverbed and water hole where sometimes massive herds of buffalo and elephant come and drink.

We chose Shindzela because of their great reviews here on tripadvisor and because they are incredibly well priced and we were not disappointed! We cannot imagine how our first safari experience could have been any better!

Every game drive was a real adventure and thanks to our super friendly & knowledgeable guide and tracker we experienced many amazing animal sightings. A big plus is the fact that - as they are in a private reserve - they are able to go off road and can therefore bring you very close to the animals.

The safari tents were very comfortable & we were provided with hot water bottles every night to keep us warm during those cold winter nights.

The food was excellent and plentiful and I particularly enjoyed the vegetarian meals that were provided.

The entire camp is beautiful and very well looked after. The camp is unfenced and there is plenty of animal activity. During our stay their water hole was visited every day by elephants which was just amazing to watch.

We can also highly recommend going on a walking safari with one of the owners as you will learn so many facts about the bush as well as the animals.

All in all we can highly recommend Shindzela & we definitely plan on going back one day!
