This place is great. They make you feel like you are special with personalized attention. Anita the lodge manager and her husband Hannas make sure you are looked after well . Ranger Gareth and tracker Loderwick make a great team in providing a fantastic safari experience. Chef Antoinette made vegetarian meals specially for me and great meals for our party of 7 with Boma's every evening. This is a special place that people will love.

Room Tip: Room 4.. This lodge has only 4 rooms.

We -4 brothers and sisters in laws- ages 60's and 70's - did a four day safari in Paradise. the Waterbuck Lodge was beyond expectations and beyond our highest hopes. Th ambiance was peacful, charming, and gracious. the days were packed fulll with the most wonderful excursions into the bush and we saw the most amazing animals in their natural state. they didn't seem to care that we were there and actually made eye contact and seemed to pose for our photos.

The bedrooms were palatial,
the food was deliicious, pleantiful, and frequent!!! You must experience this,it is once in a life time. Gareth our guide and his tracker were the most knowledge and capable people we could ever had hoped for. Gareth was a most encyclopedic source of information about the flora, and fauna of the game reserve! We speak with some authority about this as my wife and I hold advanced degrees in Zoology. Waterbuck Lodge is a 10 star experience!!!!

When we left we felt that we were evicted from this Paradise, We would go back tomorrow if they would have us!

We were actually there in June of 2010. We did a 4 day safari. Being from the states our expectations were not really very accurate, we really did know what to expect. In the 4 days we had some of the best food we had on the entire trip. The refreshments waiting for you in the evening was a nice touch. We say all the animals you would expect, we almost saw a lion kill. We were so close to a lioness we could have touched here, literally. Our ranger Christian, was amazingly knowledgeable. The accommodations were very nice. I would not hesitate to recommend Waterbuck to anyone, in fact I have recommended them to several friends that are planning trips to SA.

My husband and I stayed at Waterbuck Game Lodge on a 6 night safari holiday, and I can't say enough good things about the whole experience! The communal areas are great and overlook a waterhole - July is the dry season in the bush, so animals have to come to the waterholes to drink throughout the day. We had, hippo, impala, monkeys, warthogs etc every day to watch - I took a book and only read about 100 pages, such was the entertainment outside! Accomodation is in four 2-person lodges; each one is completely secluded with a private sun deck, which has great views. After your game drives you can be sociable and relax in the communal areas, which are gorgeous, or you can chill out in your own lodge. We had the best lodge - the only one which overlooked the waterhole, and so spent a lot of time sunbathing on our own private deck watching the animals. It was the most relaxing holiday we have ever been on!! Our room was lovely and we were SO well looked after - the food was fantastic and the service even better! There are two game drives a day - one at sunrise and one at sunset - an early start but well worth it! We had a ranger and a tracker with us on the game drives who were fantastic! They tracked down every animal we could ever have hoped to see, and thanks to their expertise, saw some amazing sights - we saw the big 5 several times, as well as countless other animals. The best part of the holiday for us was simply seeing the animals in the wild behaving as wild animals should! The best sightings were of a pride of four lions who we saw four times; we saw them stalking and chasing wildebeest, relaxing and playing with each other in the sun and even eating a giraffe which they had caught the night before! We also saw cheetah, leopard, elephant, buffalo, white and (very rare) black rhino, giraffe, crocodiles, the list really is endless. There is also an opportunity to go on a bush walk with the rangers - this is well worth doing; we were shown how to recognise different animal tracks, and the rangers were really knowledgeable about the birds and trees as well as the animals. All meals were included in the price and the food was delicious and plentiful - we didn't feel hungry once during the week! Evening meals didn't include a choice of food however, we were just told what the three courses would be; we aren't fussy eaters so it was no problem. July/August are good times to go on safari in South Africa as it is winter and there is less vegetation which makes animal spotting easier, however, the drives can be VERY cold! Take a plenty of warm layers, a hat, gloves and a scarf for the morning drives!! The swimming pool is a little bit small, but fine for cooling off on a hot day, and there are comfortable loungers in the garden around the pool. This was a fabulous holiday, and if you are thinking about a safari, is a resort which is well worth considering - WE LOVED IT!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the lodge with the view of the waterhole; it's the one on the pictures on the website.

Waterbuck Game lodge is situated within the Thornybush private game reserve. So you can expect to see quite a bit during your game drives the whole year round. We went in the middle of Dec (summer) where the foliage was thick and it was supposed to be quite difficult to spot the animals but we did see the big five and more, thanks to the good connections and communication among the rangers in the area who readily gave information on the locations of the various wildlife. We want to also thank Arnold our ranger, Loedrick our tracker, Anita and Lorey our most gracious hosts for the memorable time we spent at Waterbuck. The bed was so comfortable I 'passed out' almost every time I lay on it. The privacy and quietness of the area around the lodge was fantastic for us and to have impalas and nyalas frequently feeding around our lodge was a big plus for us. I can be soaking in the bathtub or lying on the bed with a view of the animals just beyond the walls. Food was not bad as well. Overall, a truly satisfying and wonderful stay at Waterbuck!
