My partner and I stayed here in June (18th-22nd) on the 4 night Tremisana lodge itinerary. We have been many places and this was honestly an experience we were sad to leave- in short, we will be back.
Pick up from Jo'burg-
Our driver, George, was timely when we arrived at the airport. The drive was very long and If I could afford to next time I would opt to fly to Kruger directly just because the drive is made longer by several stops and it is very tiring. However, in the grand scheme of things this is minor and we made some great friends on the journey.
While basic, it has everything you need and we loved the rustic style of the rooms. The mosquito nets on the beds truly did their job and we had no issues with insects our entire stay. We were supplied with breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. We cannot complain about the food, we very much enjoyed it and the staff could not do enough, even down to keeping the monkeys away during breakfast, which was quite amusing. The breakfast area was my personal favourite, as there was a waterhole right outside bringing all sorts of wildlife. Outside of meal times it was lovely to sit here and watch the day go by. Drinks purchased outside of this time were very well priced- we got more than our moneys worth. Of an evening there was a sort of lounge you could relax in, the staff often joined you and this added a personal touch as we could sit there exchanging stories of the days encounters. There is no evening entertainment, but with the early mornings and busy days we often turned in early. On the evening that you arrive you have dinner in the bush, this is quite exciting, especially as there were hyenas sitting near by!
The safari itself-
Viva safaris are affordable but personal. While the pricier safaris offer more luxury they appeared to be more packed and more commercialised. With all the itineraries offered by Viva Safaris, and the time of year, there were usually very few people on our game drives. The people on our game drive were the same age range as us, including our guide- Ed- and so this made the whole experience amazing. It was like being on safari with a very informative mate who had lots of interesting stories (not just someone who pointed at animals when he saw them!). We loved it. On the same note, massive thanks to Ed who made the entire trip and always went beyond for what we wanted. Sometimes it took a while before we spotted animals, but Ed was persistent and very knowledgeable, so we always found what we were looking for in the end and it was always worth it. By the end of our trip we managed to see 4 of the big 5 (we did not find a leopard but we did see one in the rehab centre) and lots of other amazing animals.
The only day we found rather tiring was the day trip to the main Kruger reserve. We found it to be a VERY long day, with a lot of traffic compared to being on the smaller game reserves. However, the animals are dense there so it is worth it.
I have mentioned before how good the staff are, but this must be highlighted. They are truly amazing and make you feel welcome from start to finish. If you have an issue it is sorted immediately. They are passionate about what they do and this shows through their hospitality and expertise.
Thank you for everything! :)
