“Wonderful as always”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2012

We have just had 3 special nights at Nottens. Having stayed as several bushcamps, we just keep returning to Nottens as it is the best around! The camp has a lovely position, the accommodation is immaculate always and very comfortable, the atmosphere (especially at night when lit with hurricane lamps) is magical but it is the the staff who really make it such a success. They share an infectious enthusiasm for the bushveld - the trackers and rangers, most of whom have lived in the area all their lives, are very knowledgable; and the staff at the camp unobtrusively make guests feel so comfortable and welcome. We can't wait to return yet again!

My sister and I have just stayed at Notten's Bush Camp for 6 nights and 7 days. From the very first moment, we were treated to a unique and wonderful experience. The lodge is run by the Notten family since 1982, and we felt from the very start we were staying at a friend's home, rather than a lodge. The staff is absolutely the friendliest and most attentive staff you could ask for, anticipating your every need. Not a moment goes by when you're sitting around the lodge common areas, like the stunning swimming pool or the cozy summer house, without someone asking you if you'd like something to drink or if you need anything.
The owners are always around, sitting with us for meals and adding to the feeling that we're visiting old friends.
The game viewing is fantastic!!! We saw plenty of leopards, lions, elephants, giraffe, buffalo, rhino, antelope, and much more. The ranger and tracker did a superb job of finding the animals and explaining different things about them, making the whole animal viewing more interesting and fun. Every day was a new adventure, and twice a day we left the lodge in our Land Rover open-top jeep, in search of new sightings, and even if we saw the same animals, each time the thrill was a bit different. The bush walks were laso amazing, and we even encountered buffalo and lions on foot, and both times the ranger in charge was superbly professional and so absolutely in control we felt absolutely and completely safe.
The food is an attraction in itself, and combines home-style cooking with gourmet quality cuisine. We especially enjoyed the beef, lamb and the different vegetables always served with the main dishes. And the desserts weret ruly sensational!!!
Arriving from the afternoon/evening drive and finding the camp all lit up by candles and torches was magical! And the candle lit dinners were also amazing. The lack of electricity in the cabins was an absolute plus. It made us feel like true explorers of the african bush and added to the experience. Reading by candle light was not a problem and electricity for recharging batteries and such was available at the summer house and at the office.
I simply cannot imagine a better safari experience than at Notten's, and left the lodge feeling like I made new friends and that I could not have found a better place to stay.
Honestly, I cannot imagine staying anywhere else from now on when returning to the greater Kruger area, and I cannot wait to go back!
Thank you everyone at Notten's for making the trip of my dreams actually become the trip of a lifetime!
Our special thanks to Annerie, Chase, Dale, Dave, Gideon, Kenneth, Mia, Sherine and Suzzie, who were with us on a daily basis!!!

We had a wonderful stay and couldn't have asked for anything more. Dale and his family were wonderful and made sure that everything was just right. We felt welcome with our 8 and 10 year old children and hope to return in the future. Thank you so much for a great time.

The rooms are wonderful. Such lovely views of the surrounding bush and open area. Loved the main lodge and tree house.

The staff were fabulous and made the stay wonderful! The food was quite good. Lunch is huge and so yummy. My only complaint is that lunch or high tea as they call it is right before the afternoon drive. I didn't have an afternoon drive where I felt good because my foot was thrown around in my stomach. You cannot go without eating so be prepared. My husband felt the same as I did.

The wildlife we saw was amazing! A pack of Wild Dogs with pups making a kill on a Duiker!!

Enjoyed not having electricity with the exception that it was quite cold at night even with the hot water bottles in the bed, but it was part of the experience. Loved it, hopefully will return one day!

This lodge ticks all the boxes. Extremely lovely rooms, plenty of good food, knowledgeable rangers and literally every single person we met there is extremely friendly.
Giving excellent ratings all over and well deserved.
