What a wonderful place, superb food excellent accomodation. This was our first trip to South Africa, we chose it for our honeymoon. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Nothing was too much trouble. The game drive guides and trackers were amazing going the extra mile every day to try and find us the animals we wanted to see. This was a once in a life time trip, it is hard to find the words to describe it all. It was out of this world.
Saw the big 5 and more.....TRULY AWESOME

My wife and I stayed at Elephant Plains for 3 nights from Nov 13 till Nov 16, and we were not disappointed. As first time travellers to South Africa and also first experience of going on a safari, we were really worried and were researching for what seemed like forever. Eventually we decided to stay at Elephant Plains and we were not disappointed at all. Our room was great (we stayed in a luxury room) and so was the food, but lets come to the main reason for being there - safari.
Our ranger (willy) and guide/tracker (connie) were great. Both were passionate and were as excited to spot the animals as we were (even though they must see them each day of the year) and there passion was catching. We saw many many animals including the Big 5 and also were luck enough to saw the elusive leopard 3 to 4 times.
All the staff was extremely friendly and caring and ensured that we had the best stay. The staff was really really accomodating, 2 such examples were:
1) Late Safari - our flight onto Nelspruit got delayed and by the time we got to the Lodge it was 5:15 pm i.e. we had missed the safari drive (which leaves at 4); however, we mentioned that we were keen to go on safari and one of the guides took the 2 of us out to join the safari drive.
2) Before visiting, i had sent an email to the Lodge asking if it would be possible to get Halal (Muslim) food. They ensured that it was arranged and was available for each and every one of our meals....thanks Roxanne.
Thumbs up all the way!!!

This write up is long overdue but am updating my trip advisor page so wanted to add some praise for this fantastic lodge. It is excellent value - great food, very comfortable rooms and lodge areas with lovely pool. they are fortunate to be in the Sabi Sand reserve which undoubtedly has the best game viewing in the world. The drives were informative and action packed. We celebrate our wedding anniversary there and left feeling feeling very pampered. Well done and keep up the great work!!

We stayed for 5 nights in a rondavel in early July 2011 and had an absolutely fantastic time. The room was large, clean and well appointed. I didn't see what the superior rooms were like inside, but I doubt we would have been any more comfortable than we were in the much cheaper rondavel.

The food was always very good, with the exception of one night in the boma when the meat was a little overcooked and on the tough side. Overall though, meals were very enjoyable with a good selection to cover most tastes. Children were well catered for and if they found there was nothing on the menu to their liking staff would always rustle up a burger and chips etc.

Now the important part - the game drives. This is the main reason for visiting Elephant Pains and it does not disappoint! Our ten game drives just seemed to keep getting better and better. We sat in the jeep thinking it just can't get any better than this - but the next time out it just did! Our guide (Ranger) Morne was fantastic. His knowledge of the area and it's wildlife did much to help our appreciation and enjoyment and our tracker Prince was elevated to Emperor in our opinion for his tremendous ability.

We have taken several safari holidays in South Africa as well as in Botswana and Namibia, but this was our best yet. We had fantastic sighting of lion and leopard, even managed to be there for a lion kill, but also some of the much smaller creatures like bushbabies and a Little Bart owl were just as fascinating.

I can't recommend this place highly enough. Try it. You won't be disappointed!

The only way I can describe our 2 night stay at Elephant Plains earlier this month is "Absolutely Fabulous!"
We wanted to experience a safari again after " touring" Masai Mara over 20 years ago.
Our holiday to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary was geared to spending the actual date at Elephant Plains.
Nothing disappointed - every aspect of our stay was exceptional.
We booked a luxury suite, since the rondavels were all booked, and ended up in the palatial honeymoon suite. Only regret was we spent only several hours relaxing on the huge deck between game drives.
All staff were very friendly and helpful. Our ranger/driver Louis had a good sense of humour and he, and Freeman, our spotter/tracker, were skilled at getting us close to the game.
The highlight of our stay was watching a female leopard stalk a duiker for about 15 minutes, and for her to roll about on her back at the rear wheel of the safari Land Rover.
What a fabulous creature with big deep eyes as she looked straight at me, and my wife looking directly down on her from the rear seat. My wife said the leopard was so beautiful it brought a tear to her eyes.
I would totally agree with all the complimentary reviews that others have made, and thank you to all staff at Elephant Plains for making our stay such a memorable one.

Room Tip: All rooms looked great - even the Rondavels, but the suites have a view out over the "plain and water hole"
