We have been a season pass holder for about 12 years. It is a great R&R relief and you get to suck all of that fresh mountain air into your lungs. You can go as hard and fast as you want or putz around.

The yurts are a worthwhile experience. Give it a try, the snow is not plentiful this year, but this is a jewel and the best XC place in the southern Rockies.

Get the map out and go, just east of Red River. They need customer support in an off snow year. T&K

This is a great place for snowshoeing. We saw a big buck in the woods. We had some mountain lion tracks. Or something large with the big paws, that was tracking us. As we were leaving, we backtracked and we noticed these tracks. This is a nice place to get away for a few hours.

Sadly, the area hasn't received much snow this winter, but we drove out from Red River anyway. We parked near the office, and hiked into the forest. The trails are beautiful and the views are nice. I'm sure it would be an enchanting place to ski.

My friend and I (both in our 60s) went snowhoeing here for several hours. The trails are well marked and not steep. Go all the way to the end of the trail system to see the view. The yurts along the way were cozy and a welcome rest stop. The owners are friendly. The sign off the main road is not very big so watch carefully or you may miss it. Once you pull off the highway, it is a little confusing as to where the road to the ski area is. We called the office and they clarified which road to take.

This was our first time cross country skiing, and while the terrain was a little tough for some of us, but everyone had a great time. The scenery is beautiful and the staff is friendly.

I've been here for cross country skiing and mountain biking. The vibe during the winter is a lot of fun, the geeky, tight-clothes-wearing nordic crowd with a lot of enthusiasm for playing in the snow. The day I biked here there was hardly anyone here and I had views of Wheeler Peak and back into Red River all to myself. Additionally, there are the yurts you can rent and hike/ski/bike into during any season. This is definitely a chunk of the New Mexico wilderness you should visit. I will definitely keep coming back.

We went to this place on next day after Christmas, Plenty of snow to ski. Skis and trail pass were around 30 bucks for all day. We took the trail around 10 am and were back by 3 pm. The trails were well maintained and well directed. We all had an awesome experience. Will plan to visit this place again.

We skied several hours here. We loved the terrain. It was mostly gradual however there were plenty of uphills to get warmed up and several downhill stretches to get some speed. We were there days before Christmas and it was not that crowded especially compared to the nearby town of Red River. The trails were well marked. The staff was friendly. The warming yurt had a toasty fire in the cast iron stove. We spent over 3 hours skiing and still did not cover all of the trails there. There is also a separate set of trails for snowshoers which looked extensive and fun. The forest was beautiful and the overlooks were pretty sweet. Coming from Colorado where we often cross country ski for free we weren't sure what to expect. This is a lovely spot. If you enjoy cross country skiing or snowshoeing you should go!

Be ready to educate your family regarding yurts. A great hike to the top of the ski area. A cute little hideaway complete with bunk beds, wood burning stove, propane camp stove and lantern. Enjoy eating around the firepit or around the large dining room table inside. It's not really roughing it unless you aren't fond of outhouses.

My husband & I cross country skied for the very first time for him & the first time in 30 years for me. The snow was amazing, weather not too cold with the sun peeping out every once in a while. The trails were well groomed & scenery beautiful. Great exercise as well as an added bonus. Everyone was very friendly & the little rental place was very homey.
Can't wait to return!!!!
