Our family stayed in Freedomland in February 2018. It was definitely a great experience, and I would've gladly given this resort 5/5 stars if not for one hiccup that soured our stay at the resort. But let's start with the goods things!

- I'm surprised that some reviews here are stating that the service was lacking. This was the opposite of what we experienced! The manager, Anthony, was (almost) always ready and available whenever we needed him. He gladly arranged trips on Phu Quoc for us which were always on time and was a great way to really see the entire island. One of our family members got sick with food poisoning on the last day and threw up in the room - however Anthony was very understanding about the entire ordeal and said it was "no problem" to clean it up.

- When staying at Freedomland, you're definitely paying for the "quaint" experience. The bungalows are spacious and comfortable, located in a quiet oasis with no noise, leaving you to connect with nature. But be warned that you will inevitably run into some animals and bugs during your stay; there's no way to avoid them. Some bugs/animals we saw were: millipedes, frogs, spiders, and ants (A LOT OF ANTS). If you don't feel comfortable with the animals/bugs, this place isn't for you.

- The food choice was very good and delicious, especially the free breakfasts. The communal dinner was a nice experience and the food was good but quite expensive...just a five minute walk down the street there are restaurants who serve the same type of food for a cheaper price.

- The beach is BEAUTIFUL! That's all I can really say.

Now here is the experience that kept us from giving this resort 5/5 stars...

- We arrived via plane and landed at Phu Quoc International Airport in the evening. Previously, we had agreed on an arrangement for a driver to pick us up at the airport and gave Freedomland all the necessary information. Freedomland confirmed and RECONFIRMED that a driver would be there to pick us up. And lo and behold, when we landed, there was no driver. We waited roughly twenty minutes in the sweltering Vietnamese heat for someone who never came - eventually, we got a taxi and went.

Later, when asking the manager why the car didn't come, the explanation given was that it was "a holiday" and they had "literally no way to contact us", despite having hold of our email and RECONFIRMING the pick up. The reason as to why they couldn't contact us was never really given. It definitely left a sour taste in our mouths before our Freedomland experience had really begun as we were all tired and hot from travelling and waiting around.

Overall, Freedomland is a great, quaint resort that really connects you with nature (and it's inhabitants). Most of the people there were couples, and there isn't a lot young children can do, so if you have young children I'd advise against taking them here unless you have things planned to keep them occupied.

We were here for 3 nights and 4 days. The services were definitely lacking. We arrived there at around 7pm and had to wait 10 minutes for the receptionist/bartender/waiter to take us to the room. He did not give us any instructions what so ever. They didn’t even offer to clean our room until the 2nd day. When we asked the receptionist regarding a place to visit/touring, he didn’t offer us any package or seem to want to talk to us at all. They took our passport and didn’t give it back until we left. When we went into the unlock office, one of our passport were laying on the table. Overall, bad experience with the staff.

Dear Duy,
thank you for your contributory review about Freedomland, we also applogise for any inconvenience during the time you are in Freedomland. you stayed with us during holiday so we didn't have staff enough to supply a great service on the first step you arrive to Freedomland. the previous guest lost our key and there are only 2 key makers on Phu Quoc Island. as a result, it was difficult to call them to make a copy on holiday but we have informed to you and asked you to leave the key whenever you go out. unfortunately you didn't do this. we also ask our staff to do the room service when you come back but you said that your room was still clean and you didn't want room service..
anyway, this is an experience for us to avoid the similar problem in the future and hope you will have a good feeling on the next time you visit Freedomland

warmest regards

We stayed at Freedomland for 4 days and had a great experience! Staff really friendly and helpful. They were always on hand to answer questions and even booked us some boat tickets for onward travel. The beach was lovely and relaxing - Freedomland had their own area with sunbeds. The room was really clean and nicely decorated, and we loved the outdoor shower! The communal dinner was very enjoyable, as you could meet other guests. Food and drinks very tasty with good selection of breakfast options. The atmosphere in the place was very good overall. Would certainly recommend! A hidden gem in rapidly changing Phu Quoc.

Hi, I would like to inform you that this hotel took all money on your bank account (prepaid) even if you couldn t go because of a typhon (phu quoc has been forbidden by the government!)
S
We were blocked with my sister in can tho because of the storm. We called this hotel to find an arrangement for the prepaiment. No cooperation even in these conditions! Our lives were at stake _money the most important
Finally we paid 200 dollars for something we did not get
A shame for this kind of hotel

Service lacking, money grabbing, basic facilities starting to get into disrepair. Owner and Managment change in 2017.

On arriving, we very quickly realised the private beach is not a private beach. In fact it is a 15-20min walk down a muddy track past closed resort gates. So we commented on that. We left our bags to return later. Later on our return the manager has sold on one of our rooms. Leaving us only one double bed for a family.
When booking you have to remember this is not cheap accommodation for the area. The cabins are well made and decent. They look pretty. Better cheaper service and cabins can be found in other similar resorts, within a 5 min walk.
Anyway we were then offered a single cabin and ‘workers ‘ accommodation to house our family. The latter did not even have a door able to lock.
Apologies were made, but even staying over new year the manager would not look me in the eye. try bo resort or ninila fruit farm, or any other eco resort within a 10 min walk and still have the same not private beach. Closer than this resort is to the beach.
as were staying over New year and this not being the case (every where nice was sold out) we would of run away.
The mosquito nets around the beds had hanging issues and large gaps where they did not fit together. The toilet kept running through. A large bin of recyclable possible material was thrown away as general waste. I am not sure where they find the word eco to describe what happens here. The food was expensive and average at best. We ate out and the entire meal cost the same as one person eating in for better food.
If the location was better Or as insinuated then it would possibly be worth half of the cost. But 0 facilities. Stagnant water which is called a lake. Paths that would make even the most sure footed person want propper walking boots on to navigate. An expensive bar, not good food. Money grabbing manager. I could go on for days.
When we left the bill was hugely inflated and incorrect. Even though breakfast is included that means only one item and one drink, so if you get an omelet with a side of bacon a juice and a cup of tea, you will be charged for the bacon and juice at high prices ( more than buying the whole lot 200m away in a restaurant.).
Please make your own mind up.
