We are on a 4 Month Itinerary touring South East Asia.. Matahari was literally our 20th Hotel/Homestay.. We are accomplished Divers but chose not to bring equipment as our intentions were not to Dive more than perhaps a total of 10 days over the course of our trip... We maintained minimal Luggage to simplify our mobility around this beautiful part of the World. We rented their on sight gear... some pieces were admittedly a little more worn than we are used to.. but managed to be geared up for some awesome diving... also will point out that while their, they just received a large supply of new gear. From the moment our driver picked us up in Ubud we were continously Greeted with Smiles and a Willingless to Please... this Trend Contines with Every Area of Sevice; Front Desk Reception, The House keeping Staff, The Restaurant Staff, The Spa Staff... We do wish to give a Special Shout out to Ben ( De Bentar)... who was great at Organizing our Dives/ Equipment... Our Dive time was not about Challenging or Deep Dives ... but more relaxing, visually Interesting and Fish Laden Sites... We got Exactly that... Many Nemos were Found along with another Hundred Varieties... Super Fun seeing Turtles and Octopus too... My Reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the Resort can Really use a Refresh in Decor/Paint and Scrubbing.. Covid has been hard on most of this sort of business... but it was great to see a "Breath of Life" at Matahari... so hopefully more revenue will allow for this... Wishing you Fabulous Business..We will Recommend...

Nice clean rooms. Little bit out of the sun and the beautiful views over the ocean.
So the terrace could be better.
You need to sit in the public spaces to enjoy them.
The best food in Tulamben. Try the restaurant.

I've been here twice and this is my favourite spot in all of Bali. Matahari Tulamben Resort is such a quiet and friendly spot. The staff are amazing! From the reception to the room cleaners, drivers and restaurant staff, they were all great! The dive staff were superb. There is a whiteboard at the dive shop and you can choose from 5 different dives per day or you can have a schedule designed just for yourself. The shore diving is great, the local porters are a sight to see carrying BCD's with tanks and regs attached on their heads to the shore dive sites!!! They also organize off site dive excursions, I went on one to Nusa Penida and we did a couple of amazing drift dives! A beautiful place in a small village hours away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta and Denpasar, paradise :) Love it and will be back!

We had two deluxe rooms and both were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and there was enough choice for everyone. This is not only a good choice for divers and snorkelers but a relaxing place for those who just want to explore the area or see a different part of Bali. Prices are very reasonable and the staff were all pleasant. The view from the restaurant is stunning, looking out at the ocean and Mt Agung behind. The 4 of us used the spa twice each. If you book two people at once you may need to ask the girls to stop talking / whispering, something that needs to be addressed. Once asked they quickly stopped, however massage services should be quiet. The massages and other services were good though. There is an inexpensive laundry on the street, a couple of convenience stores and a few local warungs. We would happily return and thank the staff for a lovely stay.

The resort is on the the shore front and so provides excellent access to the dive shop, the restaurant and the beach (for shore dives). It is compact, but attractive and quiet (though I think the guesthouse rooms could be noisy as they are situated on the main road which is busy during the day, quiet at night). The staff are all lovely - very friendly and helpful. Our room was very reasonably priced, if small, and there was a problem with the plumbing, so there was an unpleasant smell in the bathroom. Despite this problem, overall we were very happy with our stay at Matahari Tulamben. It was a great place to meet other divers.
