We ended our month long trip to South Africa and Botswana with a two night stay at the Franschhoek County House based on the recommendation of our trip organizer. The facility met all our expectations. We were there midweek in early September, 2018 so it was still winter and we had intermittent rain and fog. The hotel was not crowded. Our room was above the restaurant, but that was not a problem. Room location meant that we did not have to walk in the rain to an excellent dinner. Our room was large with a large bathroom. We had originally planned to eat dinner our first night at the hotel, and a second dinner in Franschhoek after doing the wine tram tour. We would up chilled and tired after the wine tour, so we had a second excellent dinner in the hotel. The hotel provided a shuttle service to the center of Franschhoek to start the tour, and picked us up when we finished. The hotel felt safe and secure. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They offer tea and drinks from 2 to 5 PM but we never had a chance to try it.
The breakfast is very nice. A good selection of cold items, and a menu of hot items including eggs, waffles and a full English breakfast.
I would like to return in the late summer or early fall.More
