Description: Monneaux Restaurant ranks among South Africa's top restaurants, and serves an inspired contemporary take on the classics. Lunch is enjoyed on the fountain terrace under a spreading pepper tree while dinner is enjoyed in the elegant but relaxed dining room in the original manor house. Set on the original site of Franschhoek's first parfumerie, today its the heavenly scent of chef Adrian Buchanans cooking that inspires at the Monneaux Restaurant, a Cape culinary classic. Even by the food & wine capital of the country's high standards, Monneaux is an extra-ordinary success, having been in the country's Top 100 list for six years consecutively, on the Top 10 list for two years and winning the American Express Platinum Award for fine dining. The underground cellar is available for private functions where dinner can be enjoyed by an impressive selection of local and foreign wines. The restaurant's bar lounge provide a comfortable environment to relax and enjoy the company you're with. The wine list emphasizes the boutique wines of the Franschhoek Valley as well as an impressive selection of other award winning wines of South Africa

We enjoyed two lazy lunches on the pretty garden terrace here. On both occasions we ate from the small plates menu. A really nice way to enjoy different tastes in one sitting. Three per person is about right plus a shared dessert. Staff friendly and attentive.

Ate here the two nights we were stopping in Franschoek and oh how wonderful! Staff a delight, service superb and food exquisite... Two nights just wasn't enough! Our lovely waitresses Wendy and Amanda so deserve a mention... Lovely girls! Thank you...

We booked here for Valentine's night and what a good choice it was! Superb dinner, lovely ambiance, pretty touches to celebrate the day. Altogether a lovely evening.

This restaurant scores so well on Trip Advisor and yet our experience was dire.
There is a Chef’s Menu with 3 courses at R345 and with wine at R480 or 5 courses at R575 and with wine at R795.
Our group opted for the three courses.
The crumbed brie salad to start with was good, lots of mini flowers decorating the plate, rather twee.
However the main, which most of us chose, of bacon wrapped duck confit was terrible. I think the issue was that the duck portion was below standard, some parts of it were inedible and then as it was wrapped in bacon neither the duck nor the skin were properly cooked. A duck confit should be falling off the bone, not rubbery skin and full of bits you can’t eat.
We did point this out to the servers and two portions were replaced, but they weren’t much better.
The desserts were fine, I went for the creme brûlée.
Give them their due our bill was reduced which was appropriate but we would have preferred a meal that lived up to the standard we have come to expect in Franschhoek!
The setting and environment are all lovely, it’s just a shame about the duck ....

Excellent food served by great knowledgeable staff made for a thoroughly enjoyable meal. In particular, Foster was very good with his information and advice on wines. A really good evening.
