Went there for lunch and, as in a lot of place in Franschhoek, the food was delicious, the wine was excellent and the service was spot on. Terrace a little crowded but great if you want to share and meet.

We booked for New Years Eve dinner. What a lovely evening! The staff were friendly, went out of their way to make it enjoyable for patrons and even gave out party favours - bow ties, beads, hats etc to make the evening more festive. The service was fantastic and attentive. The set menu was a triumph. The Amuse Bouche started with 5 yummy mouthfuls - my favourite was the prawn in rice paper. The artichoke and truffle soup was amazing and to die for! The duck roulade somehow was the only disappointing dish, even though I really like duck. Our choice of 3 for the main course saw my husband ordering the beef and my daughter and I the fish and it was delicious. We ploughed through the dessert even though we were pretty full at this stage. A complimentary glass of bubbly rounded off the evening and everyone joined in the dancing. I would recommend that the restaurant consider the choice of music in future. It was very dated
and did not get everyone moving. Not every one likes music from only one era. But a wonderful evening nonetheless.

At Dutch East you can sit under leafy green trees and crisp white umbrellas and see the world go by. Here you can sip a glass of bubbly and socialize. I'm always greeted with a great big smile. This is were I'll go on a warm sunny day.

Dear Isabella V,

Thank you for taking the time to review our establishment.
Our outside area is always one of our greatest attractions to our restaurant, I'm glad that you could enjoy Franschhoek's hospitality at it's best!
Hope to welcome you soon to Dutch East again!

Surprised by how limited the menu was here. Not really a lunchtime place, no salads or lighter meals. Ended up having just starters. Wine choice ok, but staff knew nothing about what was on offer and the menu didn’t help much with a decent explanation.
Service was up to scratch, limited shade for eating outside so one for evening or choose an inside table

Thanks for taking the time to write this review.

I am proud of my staff. They work very hard to achieve the highest levels in food and service.

However, I find your comment on the limits on our menu strange. Our menu offers 30 different dishes with 11 starters, which includes a avocado salad, goats cheese tartlet that is served with salad, a fried squid salad, fresh oysters, fresh mussels which you can order as a small or large portion, a mushroom risotto which again you can order as a small or large portion.

Our menu offers two burgers, also nice for lunch for lunch! Then we have a steak selection with all varied sizes that you can choose from. You can also choose from 6 different side dishes for your steak or any other dish for that matter, that includes a gain a salad and 3 different type of vegetables.

Maybe you should rather say that you did not find something to your liking, before insulting a menu that has been offer for years without any mention of lack of variety.

Most of all I am completely baffled about the seating? The outside is under trees and there is a veranda and umbrellas (8 of them to choose from) you can have your own if you like.
