There is nothing exceptional or luxurious about this hotel, but it serves the needs precisely of visitors looking for a modestly priced hotel close to a major suburban thoroughfare. Our room was pleasantly furnished in a cookie-cutter way with a firm king-bed, a desk that was large enough that you could work, a wardrobe large enough to hang a few day's worth of clothes, full-length mirror, microwave, under-counter fridge, Keurig coffee maker, and an acceptable bathroom, with large-ish bath towels, etc. The clerk at check-in was considerate enough to ask us how sensitive we were to highway noise, and place us in a 3rd floor room facing the back, when we asked for a quiet room.

We did not avail ourselves of the complementary breakfast either day of our stay, other than to take some coffee -- which was pretty mediocre.

Both check in & out were efficient. All of the staff we encountered were pleasant. We did appreciate the availability of complementary WSJs in the lobby (USA Today and the local Bergen County Record too.)

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back to minimize noise

It's our go to for family trips in the area: Consistent and well run by good people. I think we stayed over 30 nights here over the years. As a bonus, there's a Dunkin Donuts you can walk to, which on Route 17 is hard. However, the breakfast isn't bad at all. You won't mistake it for a diner, but you will likely enjoy it.

Room Tip: It's our go to for family trips in the area: Consistent and well run by good people.

This hotel is in the process of a major renovation and the rooms have been completely updated. Desk clerk was able to accommodate an early arrival which I appreciated. It would be nice if there was a tenant in the vacant restaurant in the parking lot. Overall management is investing in this older property and guests will enjoy the upgrades.

Although the room, which was renovated, was nice, the common areas are being renovated and are disappointing. Small parking lot. Breakfast only fair, both food as well as room. Small front lobby. Overall only average.

Dear mysticalfoodie,

Thank you for your review. We are glad you liked out newly renovated rooms, however we are sorry about your disappointment with the renovations of the public areas. We are working as quickly as possible to complete the renovations for the comfort of our guests. Our new breakfast room and lifestyle lounge will be larger once completed. Also, we have additional parking spaces at the back of the hotel.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Holiday Inn Express Ramsey-Mahwah NJ.

We stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Express in Ramsey. Everything was very nice- clean room, nice hot (FREE) breakfast. There was room in the lobby for us to visit with our extended family before going out for dinner.
The exceptional service came hours after we checked out. He had a funeral to go to (the reason for our stay), but after the funeral had a 6 hour drive home. In a pinch, I called the hotel to see if we could change out of our dress clothes (perhaps in the bathroom off the lobby). We figured that would be cleaner than a gas station, for sure!
David said "yes" we could come back to change. He gave us the key to a room on the first level, close to the lobby. This was a clean room, and not our original! We were so grateful!!
This is exceptional service, and we appreciate it so much. This is our second stay at this hotel, and we will be back every time we visit the area.
Thanks again, David! (And thank you to the staff that tidied up after we used their clean room!)
