Had dinner with my wife's family. Mike, our bartender and restaurant server was very helpful. We started at the bar with drinks and the chicken nachos. Great nachos! Dinner was great. Everyone had something different from the menu. We all enjoyed our meals. Plan to go there again when we are in Frenchtown.

Decent drinks. Bartender was a bit cocky. Nice stop in area though. Should be open later. Would go again.

The person who booked our dinner reservation for four guests provided NO advance warnings. As we arrived at The National Hotel Restaurant, we learned about Frenchtown's "Riverfest" Sunday. What do we find but a country & western band straddling the doorway between the bar area and the restaurant. One to three singers, with over-amped speakers -- to say nothing of lousy singing -- made it well neigh impossible to even speak with the waiter, much less with our dining companions. Three of our group are local residents, and not new to The National. The decibel count in the restaurant had to be in the 140 - 180 range, potentially audio -injurious! No wonder we had headaches even before we had a drink. We all vowed to never again step foot in The National. What were the owners thinking when they made a business decision to allow this band in their place of business?

I ordered a dining "wrap". The wrap was pre-cooked in deep fat, with the stuffing inserted after the fact. Tasteless. But who could taste anything in the din?

Thank you for you review. We do not control the events in town and Riverfest is one of those events. We do inform our guests if asked about the happenings in town. With confidence, we can state that the band was not 'injurious' to anyone, as you could probably tell by the attendance, which is why Management has decided to have live music on Sundays in the main bar. You are correct that Riverfest draws visitors and residents to the center of town each year. Unfortunately, you mistook the music genre to be country and western music, but as the name of the band suggests, Waterfront Blues, plays blues music, and they are a favorite of locals and visitors to Frenchtown. To respond to your question from your review, the latter is why Management has booked them on several Sundays throughout these last few years. In addition, regarding the wrap: It is not fried; it is grilled with no added fat. The grilled Paratha bread is used as a wrap as described on our menu. We feel really sorry that you will not be back. However, if you do decide to return, please be assured that you will be more than happy with our ambiance and service as the numerous other reviews on TripAdvisor indicate.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Always wanted to go, finally did, and will definitely be back for sure. The service was amazing to start, and the bartender superb. The grilled scallops and watermelon is a must have as an appetizer. The shrimp risotto was great, as well as the turkey and brie sandwich. The canoli martini...wow. The ambiance of the place is great too.

The food is great and the dining room bar is just gorgeous. Must be quite old, as is the hotel, but beautifully kept and charming. We love going here in winter when there are few tourists and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming as we come in from the cold. My husband, the Burger Man, says the blue cheese burger is outstanding and it always looks thick and juicy. The menu is an interesting blend of basic American and Indian -- (Indian as in India, not Native American) dishes. We've never had anything here that was less than tasty, and the service is prompt and friendly. Only thing we're not crazy about is the downstairs tavern, which is dreary with low ceilings and a dingy feeling, but many locals swear by it.

We're so glad that you continue to make the time to visit The National Hotel in Frenchtown. We're incredibly pleased to learn that you have enjoyed the different things you have tried on our menu, and knowing that your husband favors our Insanity Burger is great feedback that we've shared with our Executive Chef. You are also quite right that it is a historic establishment. The original building dates back to 1833, and current edifice opened its doors in 1851. The Hotel itself has 10 guest suites, and the cellar is original to the building, with The Rathskeller Tavern opening its doors as a pub in the 1980s. Visitor and local residents love the programs that are offered there, including Tuesday Bi-Weekly Trivia, Wednesday Karaoke, Thursday Open Mic Night, Saturday Night Live Music, and more. We also have Sunday Musical Afternoons w/live music (5-7) in our main upstairs Restaurant and Bar. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future and thank you for your continued patronage.
