“A Charm and a Jewel by the Sea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2011

Angel of the Sea possesses all the charm one might expect in the Victorian era. The rooms are styled in Victorian colors, furniture and accents. The mood is laid back and restful. The staff is attentive to your needs. We have stayed at this bed and breakfast for the past 6 years and we have always felt as if we were special guests. Oh! And there is a wonderfully presented tea with cookies and/or pastries each late afternoon about 4 PM. This is followed by a wine and cheese hour at 5:30 PM. Each year that we go to Angel we have to remember to make dinner reservations for about 8 PM, because we fill ourselves so much with the abundance of goodies at these two special snack times. I promise that you won't go away from these afternoon snacks feeling gastronomically deprived! While we are on the subject of food. Breakfast is available from 8 AM to 10 AM each morning. And it is a freshly cooked meal that will not disappoint you. When they can, they will accomodate any special dietary needs you may have.

I cannot finish this review without a reminder that this bed and breakfast has a lot of history and even a few ghosts stories of the friendly variety. But, I will leave that up to you to discover when you visit! Go and enjoy!

Room Tip: Angel of the Sea has pictures of each room with a very clear and honest description of each room. T...

Thanks and Wow thats a lot to live up to. We do try hard each day to surprise even our most frequent guests with a great menu. With all the day to day stress most people endure a little peace and wine go a long way. Thanks for all the delightful words and we will keep working hard at making it look like we are not working at all!!!!!

My wife and I have visited Cape May numerous times. We have stayed at several B&Bs as well as hotels. We've even tried a small efficiency apartment. However nothing in the town compares to the Angel. I've visited several times over numerous years, most recently in April.

For this visit we stayed in suite #28. It was absolutely awesome. We had deck all to ourselves, the room was huge. As usual the service was friendly, the food was great and we met some other nice couples. The breakfast is always something new, the afternoon tea and deserts are great and the wine and cheese is always peaceful and relaxing.

I don't know the name of the person at the front desk but he's been there the last couple of times we visited. He's always very friendly and helpful.

For anyone considering the going to Cape May and staying at a B&B try the Angel.

My husband and I just spent the weekend at the Angel and had a wonderful experience. This was a treat from our family to celebrate a combo wedding anniversary and 40th birthday. We arrived later in the evening on Friday and were still offered a glass of wine at check in. The staff was friendly and the room was very comfortable. We stayed in room 1 off of the dining room. We found the location of our room very convenient. I was told upon booking that our particular room might be noisy since it was off the dining room but we did not find it bothersome at all. The breakfast was excellent and very fulfilling. The tea and treats were outstanding and tasty. The wine and cheese hour was also very good. We are glad that we finally had the opportunity to stay here since we have been passing the Angel for years. This will hopefully become an annual tradition.

My husband and I, until this trip, had no experience with B&Bs, but I would guess that Angel is one of the better ones. It is very well kept, but kind of on the pricey side. Our room was on the 3rd floor - 34 steep steps up and down. The room was small, but clean and nicely decorated (if you like Victorian). The bathroom had a clawfoot tub which was a bit difficult to get in and out of. The bed was somewhat uncomfortable for us. The room was surprisingly quiet. Would have liked a room with an ocean view but it wasn't available and probably cost more. We did get a "book one night, second night free" deal, but the odd thing about that was that our room rate was listed on the web page as $170/night and we were charged $270 for two nights. What happened to the free night? We should have asked.

We heard people rave about the breakfasts, but we were not impressed. Both mornings that we were there the food seemed underdone. Afternoon tea was nice - but, again, we weren't impressed with the goodies provided. Wine & cheese was good.

We enjoyed being a short walk from the beach and not too close to the shopping district. We used the bicycles that Angel provided to do a little riding in the area. They also provide beach chairs, umbrellas and towels in season.

We realize now that we do not care for the B&B type of accommodation, but I don't think that's the fault of Angel. There were quite a number of people there who said they have been coming back for many years. It was, in general, an older crowd, but that could have been due to the time of year (October). We were also not that impressed with Cape May.

Room Tip: If you have a hard time with stairs, don't take a 3rd floor room - maybe not even a 2nd floor ro...

It is always nice to see a review from guests.I do appriciate the room tip they give as it true. The third floor rooms are a lot of stairs. We have first floor rooms( 9 )and some of those also have a walk in shower.
I do wish you had inquired about the package as it is 270.00 for both nights. It is a Package based on our summer rate and is listed on both our rate sheets and web site under packages.
Sorry to hear breakfast was a little disappointing and do wish we had a chance to improve the palitability of the meal during your time with us.
We understand a B&B is not everyones cup of tea but appriciate the nice review and opputunity you gave us.

This was our second trip to the angel we just checked out and was so sad to leave but we booked already for next year. We plan on making this the place to go for our wedding anniversaries. The room was beautiful and immaculately clean. The staff are some of the friendliest people we have ever met. This is the most accommodating place we have ever stayed. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of things on the buffett to try. High tea was great the pastries, cakes, and cookies were so great we had to purchase the Angel of the Sea cook book, and their coffee is some of the best my husband and I ever had. The whole experience was amazing. The porches have beautiful views of the ocean. When coming to the angel you can't help but to relax . We are a young couple but we can apppreciate the charm and everything the angel of the sea has to offer and would recommend to any one interested in staying here book the trip! You wont regret it and when you leave you will truly be sad to say good bye.

Room Tip: room 24 we had our first trip was a suite and beautiful with a fireplace. This trip we had room 15 i...
