My wife and I just came back from Cape May and we were very disappointed with The Summer Station for a number of reasons, one of which we believe is the inaccuracy of Trip Advisor reviews. A few caveats are in order, for the sake of full disclosure and an honest review: first, we are mature adults looking for comfort, a little luxury and a great location; secondly, we usually do not rent apartments or condos as we prefer full service hotels.

With those two disclosures out of the way, we hope that the following review may be of assistance to travellers. I would like to point out a few positives: 1) the lady at the front desk was very helpful and polite; 2) the manager Mr. Mullen called us to follow- up on our unannounced early departure; 3) we received our parking pass early prior to our check in; 4) the bed linen, kitchen and appliances were very clean.

Now for our negative comments:
Our first impression was very negative: the office/front desk is dingy, small, very dated furniture, damaged walls, old sketchy elevator. Still we kept an open mind, our check-in completed, we went up to our room (room 402, ocean view 2 bedrooms suite, fourth floor) where we were accosted by two cleaning staff who accused us of having complained about them at the front desk because our room was not ready - we had not complained, nor had we said a word as our room was ready on time - so obviously some kind of miscommunication happened. Our room was as clean as it could be but that could not fix the stained carpet, chipping paint on walls and ceiling, small balcony with cheap uncomfortable plastic chairs, small cheap tv, uncomfortable dated sofa and chairs. No tv in bedroom.

Other negatives: no sun umbrellas around pool; pool itself is small; office closes from 11 PM to 8 AM making the elevator inaccessible during that time and frankly creating a problem hauling suitcases and other stuff if leaving before 8am; this also creates a security concern as anyone has full access via the outside stairs to the property including parking garage - on this last point we accept that Cape May is very safe but nonetheless a security concern exists. This is particularly so because bedroom windows are accessible to anyone. This is not a typical condo building layout but rather that of a four story motel with outside access.

After one night only, we decided to cancel the rest of our vacations and head back home to Canada as we could not see ourselves staying at this hotel/condo for the full four nights. So, a big disappointment that pretty much ended our Cape May vacation. I think that all of this could have been avoided if both hotel website and reviews would have been more straightforward and helpful. This is a basic condo accommodation, no frills, luxuries or amenities. We understand that every traveller has very different needs - different budget and perhaps Summer Station meets all of your needs but buyer beware as the price is still quite steep.

Room Tip: We do not recommend staying here for travellers who share our likes and needs

Lots of space for families with kitchenette, living room, 2 bedrooms....good location near town and great views of beach....could use some updating to bathrooms/ceilings but all around good value and great pricing with friendly staff!

Drab, dirty and dated... If you're going to Cape May find a better alternative. There are no pictures of their pool on their website, probably for a reason. We check in, took a look at the room, thought about what we had just paid to stay here and decided to leave.

This is our 6th year staying at Summer Station and we are already booked for next year. The staff is excellent and the rooms are great. The cleaning staff is on top of everything. The location and views can not be beat.

The higher floor rooms are best. The fourth and third floors have the best views.

Great vacation. The staff is friendly and attentive. The rooms are clean and comfortable. This condotel is perfect if you prefer extra space. A well equipped kitchen and living room. Will definitely be back again. Already booked next years stay.
