We spent 2 nights in a king bed room. Very clean and large walk in shower. Each night there were 2 cookies on the pillow! The historic down town was an easy walk from the hotel. We were visiting Riverwoods for a special program and this was a great place to discover the area.

This is an older style hotel right in town. The rooms are small but comfortable with old fashioned decor. In general the inn is a good price for the area and a nice change from the cookie cutter chain hotels.

Pro's:
Great location. Close proximity to the school & town. Friendly service. Coffee in the morning, drinks and cookies served in the afternoon. Food in restaurant is very good.
Con's:
Sheets felt dirty & were well worn, pillows were lumpy & old. Extra "bed" was very old and not even. Tiny bathroom, barely enough room to turn around. Carpet on floor needs to either be changed or cleaned. Room overall felt a little dingy.

I love historic Inn's but in this case I would rather stay at a newer hotel in town. I stayed July 2015

We stayed one night on our way to Maine. We were comfortable. We stayed in the building on the left side. This required our walking in the rain, under a partially covered walkway, to another building with our suitcases. It was cute and I would consider returning.

Exeter is a lovely little town with plenty of restaurants and local ares of interest. Enough to see for a few days. Good to get out and about to both Portland (by local train ~ 1 hour), Boston (~1 hour) and Portsmouth (very good town) and Hampton by the sea - travel by taxi (mainly UBER). The Hotel itself is really great. Excellent staff, food and drink. The Area is beautiful and full of early American history spanning around 300 years. The people are extremely extremely friendly and the local prep school dominates the town. Very glad to have stayed here for both the hotel and the local area.

Room Tip: Upper floors are quietest but all are reasonable.
