“Hearty Ski Lunch”

Quaint little restaurant situated in St Nicolas de Veroce where we usually rent our ski equipment. We visited over the summer and are back again this winter (conveniently located next to the ski lift especially if you are coming down from the slopes) to enjoy the food. You will definitely find a warm hearty meal (savoyard and non-savoyard) here after hitting the slopes or if you happen to be hiking around St Nicolas over the summer. This trip, we had the kids in tow (5y and 6y olds) for our first lunch where they had the Menu Du Jour to share. Second time, we came separately on our own (we ordered a la Carte but the menus look like they were of decent value). The meat was delicious ... I enjoyed the Magret de Canard so much that I ate it both times for lunch whilst my husband had his steak. For appetisers, we tried the poached eggs and foie gras (definitely having this again). We will be back! Staff were very welcoming/kids-friendly.

One of our favourite restaurants in the area both for the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. Every time we visit we are always welcomed like old friends, although I'm not necessarily sure that they remember us. The food is always top notch - beautifully cooked and presented. An gastronomic gem, with a fantastic view of the mountains. We will definitely return.

St Nicholas de Veroce is a small village in Megeve area, but the lunch at Le Coin du Feu was great! 19,50 euros for a "skiers lunch", 3 courses, definitely the best ski lunch ever - at least at that price. We were all very pleased.Very nice restaurant, very nice and friendly service. Located just at the ski lift. Worth of skiing down to Saint-Nicholas, only for the lunch!!!!

We popped into this hotel/restaurant and bar for drinks, with the intention of eating dinner. Bear in mind this is the ski season albeit the beginning.

We'd no sooner walked through the door when the female bar attendant was barking at us in French, I was merely taking my coat off and hanging it up, she was fairly insistent I chose a drink there and then. We asked about eating and was told 'NO!,' then she qualified it with pointing at her watch signifying an hour hence.

We sat in the near enough empty place, excepting four elderly residents (possibly hotel residents) and nurtured our drink, as no sooner than we sat to drink then all the staff sat and ate their dinner. Now I fully expect people to eat, and that is perfectly acceptable, it was slightly irksome when we were starving hungry having travelled for near on 10 hours with little sustenance that we had to watch everyone eat for an hour.

We were just about on the verge of leaving and going elsewhere (albeit St Nicolas de V. is limited eatery wise) when a very nice chap took us to our table and gave us the menu, as we were so hungry it would have been churlish to leave at this point. But we agreed to get the cheapest option, rather than the rather splendid sounding more expensive options, so that we weren't handing our good cash to an establishment that does not make you feel welcome or wanted, in fact makes you feel like an intrusion.

The food was lovely having said all that, we had essentially cheese on toast to start, with a small pretty salad (it was delicious), the main was pork cheeks and an amazing local savoury pudding with raisins and prunes, and a lovely cabbage side dish ... this main was fabulous. And then dessert was fromage frais in a fruit coulis.

We ate and left pretty sharpish as we'd accomplished our mission to eat and there were no incentives to stay for a few more drinks.

Thank Showey

We had dinner here last week. Great fondue with mushrooms, complimented with a nice wine (suggested by the owner). One of us took a trout, which didn't seem fresh, missed opportunity. Overall, not bad at all for this small town!
