I am a huge fan of the Cancun Resort. We love it because it is perfect for families. We stayed two nights in February. The front desk was very accommodating when we wanted to switch rooms to be closer to our friends. Our only disappointment was that the pool closed very early and our kids didn't get a chance to swim because we were gone during the day.

This is a large resort with two pools, water slides, five spas, many lounge chairs, a poolside café and even several outdoor hammocks. Unfortunately for us, the weather was nasty and the large pool, as well as several of the spas, was closed for the season. I think that if we had come in the summer and been able to enjoy the outdoor facilities this would be a totally different review.

We phoned ahead and requested the best view available. We were given a two bedroom condo on the sixth floor of building five. It had a large patio (again, too cold to use) and a great view of the Strip in the distance with the mountains behind. We were able to find a parking spot in the underground garage about half the time, but the outside parking was also convenient. There are carts to help you get your things up the elevators and to your room, but they have to be hunted down during the popular check in and check out times.

Our rooms were very clean and quiet. The master bed was way past its due date, with a large gully on one side. Two overhead lights were burned out and they remained burned out through our stay, despite repeated calls to get them fixed. The kitchen was the smallest “full” kitchen we have ever experienced in a condo. There were no serving platters or bowls. The living area was cramped with four adults and the furniture was uncomfortable. The wind whistled under our door even though we were way down the hall from the entrance. We finally blocked the bottom of the door with a towel.

The drive to the Strip was not bad, especially when we took the side streets to our chosen locations. There was plenty of free parking in the casinos. We could have taken a cab, but the resort staff informed us that the one way charge was $ 25 and that was more than we wanted to pay. We took a day trip to the Red Rock area and that was well worth it.

The Town Square Shopping Center just down the street is very attractive with a lot of good stores and restaurants. We especially enjoyed the Brio Tuscan Grill. We also got several meals at the Whole Foods Market and just brought them back to the condo rather than try to cook. We ate once at Steiners across the street from the resort, but the noise level was excessive and the food was not worth it.

Pros: Great outdoor facilities – weather permitting. Quiet. Convenient to the freeway and the strip.

Cons: A car is a necessity. Beds are old. Kitchen is tiny.

Room Tip: North facing rooms on the north side have a good view of the Strip, especially at night.

Customer service/reservations/front desk - all excellent.

We chose to stay here because we wanted a place with a full kitchen. The price and location were great. Other options were $90-100 more per night and the location was not as good. We were in Las Vegas to hike, not to gamble. However, you could be at the Strip in just a few minutes (about 4 miles) - you could even catch a bus if you didn't want the hassle of driving up there.

The pool and hot tubs seemed well-maintained, but it was chilly while we were there and did not use them.

There was a grocery almost right across the street, and an outlet mall about a mile away.

The carpet in the villa was worn and needed to be replaced. Everything else was fine - linens were all new.

We were told that we had to go to the concierge to get our parking pass. After waiting in line (behind 1 person) for 20 minutes, we returned to the front desk and got our parking pass there.

Room Tip: Top floor - quieter, nice views

We traded our timeshare for a week here when I had a conference in Las Vegas. Unfortunately here at the end of February they do not have the large pool & jacuzzi open, just the smaller pool (along with three other jacuzzi's). The pool water temperature was very nice, not the "heated" cold water often experienced at other places. And the 4 water slides are above average as well, even though they are all at the smaller pool.

We planned to spend our last day at the pool but a "bio-hazard" on deck had them clearing the pool area for the rest of the day. This was at about 11am. With the other pool closed, that meant no swimming for anyone all day Saturday. Yet the other pool looked so inviting, it was a shame they couldn't open it for all us guests. Also, the pool hours of 10am-5pm SUCK! I have to believe this is only during the winter months but still, that's ridiculous. It was in the 70's all week and we would have liked to enjoy the pool in the early evening after being out during the day.

Phone messages arrived daily on activities going on the next day.

Nice room divider.

Kitchen is very small, but like another reviewer said, it's useable.

Kids loved the extra-large tub with jets.

No DVD rentals on site, but Red Box outside of the Food-4-Less across the street proved to be very helpful.

This is great for families as another reviewer said, given that it's well south of the Entering Las Vegas sign. I walked the SIX MILES to here from the MGM Grand and it took 90 minutes. Only did that once when a car was not available, as I had the time and I didn't want to pay the $28 cab fee. (BTW - hop onto the freeway to avoid the traffic on the strip - get you back to the resort a lot faster than crawling south down Las Vegas Blvd.

Our room was clean and everything was tidy. Wife complained that the one day the room service came (mid-week) they did not leave it in top shape and not all the towels were replaced, and my wife isn't picky. She surmised it had to do with her not thinking about leaving a tip before she and the kids left that day.

Watch out for timeshare flyers tucked under your door. The resort said they do not do this and that what we received is from an outside company and is illegal. We decided to go on the presentation anyway because of th e"rewards" offered, but we canceled after we got there when we found out the presentation was going to be twice as long as we were promised, and that the "kids club" wasn't available as promised either.

Overall a nice resort away from the main drag, a good thing once night falls if you have kids. But I rate the location poor for the fact that overall, with no transportation services provided by the resort, it's just that. Poor. Why go to Vegas to stay so far away from...Vegas? This was more of a business trip for me and I had the opportunity to bring my family, so it worked.

Will post pics when I get them off my camera.
