For being so close to Las Vegas, this is such a serene and beautiful area. Complete contrast to the lights a glitz of the strip, but nature at its finest. Beautiful with easy access to park a car at appropriate intervals.

My wife and I recently visited Red Rock. It is beautiful. The first stop on the scenic route is a great place to climb a little and take great photos. The Le Madre Spring hike is NOT worth it. It says 1.5 miles. This is very misleading. It is 1.5 miles to the fork, 1.5 more miles to the next fork and .5 miles to the spring. It is a high elevation change hike and round trip from the parking lot ended up being 7.2 miles. Luckily we are in shape but we watched people struggling with their family. The spring is a one foot wide trickling spring. Not worth it. There are some incredible photo spots on the hike though.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a short drive from Las Vegas and a worthy side trip if you are in the area. It is a smallish NPS unit, but don't underestimate it- the place is beautiful. The geologic features of the park are visually stunning, and the numerous trails offer a great chance to experience the park up close and personal.

Some tips for visiting: It is a busy place. If you come mid-day, expect a line of cars at the entrance gate. The best time to come is early in the morning (it opens at 06:00). It is not as hot or busy then and that is the ideal time to hike. The afternoon heat and sun are relentless in the warmer months and will make hiking unpleasant at a minimum and potentially dangerous. Do the scenic drive, but also get out of your car and walk around even if you don't do a full hike. Your visit will be much more rewarding if you do more than see the park through your car windows. Take time to go to the visitor center. There are some nice displays and a short video to help you learn more about what you are about to see. Admission is $15 per car. The best value is to get the America the Beautiful Annual Pass, which costs $80 but can be used for access to nearly all NPS units for an entire year from the date of purchase. It pays for itself in no time if you visit parks. Buy the pass and get out and enjoy your National Parks, Conservation Areas, and Historic Sites!

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a great place to visit and I highly recommend it!

Rent a car if you have to, and go! It’s such a lovely break from The Strip. Close enough to Las Vegas for a quick afternoon adventure but also a great place to spend an entire day!

Brought the family to see this park. Lots of places to stop off and hike trails. The red rocks are striking to see and climb. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes, hiking shoes and water. The scenic tour by car is 13 miles long but the trails easily exceed that. Saw Rock climbers bring their gear to climb. Remember the rocks are sandstone. The scenic tour by car would make for a great bike ride. Everywhere you go you will be greeted by spectacular views. It is very quiet but be prepared that much of the park has no cell service. So download maps of the area prior. Overall a great place to visit to get away from the hustle of the Vegas Strip.
