Being our thirtieth wedding anniversary, I had booked in advance and asked for a nice table. On entering, we were welcomed by the owner and shown to our table. I was completely taken by surprise, as the small terrace was beautifully set up to resemble a chic private dining area outside. This included an elegant stand lamp, a large bouquet of flowers in a stunning vase and other small details, that gave you the sense that a lot of thought and care went into setting this up.
Menus in hand, my heart started pumping as I honestly did not know what to order. Personally my style of eating is small and varied, more of a two starter eater than starter and main course. Here the antipasti selection was a tough choice, so I decided to order all of them except the cheese and salami platter. The food started arriving and my mouth began to salivate with anticipation. The first two dishes, Tuna fish in a sweet and sour sauce and a 'caponata' delicious. Pressed octopus, and I don't usually eat this, was the most tender and delicate I have ever tried, actually converted me. A bed of caramelized onions with a balsamic reduction topped with an interesting looking profiterole divine. By this time I wished this meal would never end. The last two starters were placed in front of us, chickpea chips wrapped in prosciutto and a zucchini soufflé. To describe these two dishes, let me just say food from the Heaven above. Also the presentation perfection.
I love my food and wine and I am a fussy eater, yet always ready to explore new horizons and venture into the unknown. Sometimes my palate is pleasantly surprised and excited, especially when the food is so lovingly prepared by the owner's son, who is the chef here, which I must add, in my opinion outdid himself fabulously. If more stars were available I would give it more without hesitation.
