Kent and Judy Conner

We stayed in a lodge room, which was very comfortable, well supplied, and very clean. The view from the room's balcony was fantastic - Hawley Mountain above and the Boulder River below.

The staff was fantastic from the moment we arrived. All of them made us feel like family. The concern and help was above and beyond what we expected. The fact that they joined us for meals allowed us to get to know them better and made us feel more at home.

Meals were absolutely delicious and varied, and there was something different at every meal. The campfire cookouts were a special treat. Congrats to the cooks.

There were activities for everyone of all ages. The horses were extremely well behaved, a pleasure to ride, and individually matched to the rider.

Many thanks to Ron, Phyllis, Ellen, Erik, and the rest of the staff for a week to remember. We're looking forward to a return visit.

What a delight!! Not only was it a fun adventure getting there but the entire vibe about the place is juts special. Wonderful cabins that were soooo clean when we checked in.

Great food and refreshing variety.

The staff was very friendly, easy going and accommodating.

By the second day my wife shared that she would love to come back.

We have been to 6-8 ranches across the NorthWest and this one is very unique and a great value for the cost.

The access to the Boulder River for fly fishing was exceptional. Great river with very little pressure and a variety of places to fish.

The whole week was just great.

Room tip: Each of the cabins are different and the staff can help you on what's best.

I researched dozens of dude ranches before settling on Hawley Mountain. As we were traveling almost 2,000 miles to reach the ranch and had been anticipating this trip since January, I was nervous that we would be disappointed with the experience. Nothing could be further from the truth.

As the days in the week passed by and we got to know the staff and other guests better, our family settled in and truly enjoyed all of the activities, the food (which was fantastic), and the scenery. Our boys (8 and 11) had never been horseback riding before, but the horses selected for them were perfect matches, and they loved going out on the trails.

One of the reasons I selected Hawley Ranch was for the variety of activities (river rafting, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, etc.) and the "low-key" atmosphere. There was never any pressure to join or not join any of the activities. Also, we had the special privilege of being there for the 50th wedding anniversary of the owners, and felt very special to be included in that celebration.

It was a great week for our family to be unplugged, play cards, relax, eat great food, and meet some new people. It was particularly rewarding as a parent to watch our boys gain confidence by trying new things in a place that celebrates the ruggedness and strength of the individual but also recognizes the importance of community and serving others.

This was our second year at Hawley Mountain Guest Ranch. Once again we had a wonderful vacation. The owners (Ron and Phyllis) and staff are super wonderful people – all very friendly and patient. The scenery is awesome, the food is great, the horses are perfect for beginners, and activities are all well planned. When we visited in mid-July the temperature was near 100 in Billings and Big Timber (really hot and miserable!), but up in Hawley Mountain it was low 80s in the daytime and a cool 60s (I am guessing) at night. Perfect weather. Wild flowers were still blooming everywhere. At high altitudes (9000 feet or so, 3000 feet up from the ranch) there was still snow. For those of us from the East coast (or Europe, I suppose), everything in Montana is much bigger (even the speed limit - 80!). This is fun.

Tip: Fly-in to Billings and take the Beartooth highway to Yellowstone for a day. If you can, rent a small 4x4 truck (we did) – you don’t really need it (a Prius made it to the ranch!), but it was fun to drive on the gravel road to the Ranch. If you want to blend in with the locals, you do need a truck (a really big one).

Tip: Buy Wrangler jeans and western boots – it will make the horse riding more comfortable

Room tip: We like the cabins

My wife and I took our two kids, ages 11 and 13, to Hawley Mountain for the week. This was the second trip for my wife and I, but the first for our kids, and I must say it lived up to everything we had hoped and more! The scenery can't be beat, the fishing was phenomenal, and of course the horseback riding was fantastic. My son especially enjoyed the roping lessons! All the staff made us feel like family, while also giving us plenty of flexibility to choose our own activities, and the food was terrific. I cannot say enough about what a wonderful family experience this was. Thank you Ron, Phyllis, Ellen, Nancy, Erik, Jenna, Maddy, Josh and the entire Hawley Mountain crew!
